76% huh... dude. att must not have that bad of a network if that many are swinging a new contract. iphone killers?
either way I dont really care. I dont have an iphone and prolly never will. In fact, as soon as my company stops making me carry one (and paying for it) I wont have a cell phone anymore. I hate this damn thing so bad. |

Is that percentage surprising? What's to discuss?

I expect that what James is getting at is that it's not bringing in a whole lot of new users.
I expect that may change, as the days go buy, since new users aren't the cultish freaks willing to stand in line for the newest iteration. OTOH, the problem with the antenna placement even made the local news, so that can't help motivate new users.

I agree - the apple crazies have to get theirs first. With that said, I have heard about the signal problems and the lame excuse from Apple but I dont have that problem at all. Maybe its because I have a case on mine but either way, somethings messed up if that many people complain about reception.

That sounds good and bad for AT&T.
Good- they have users locked into a contract for another 2 years. Bad- People upgrading will probably maintain their existing contracts that allow "unlimited" data usage, which will further bog down the network now that multitasking is possible. I can't believe though that people will wait hours in line for something they can buy either online without a wait or wait 2 weeks and have no wait.

Not really a suprise - a lot of ipod users upgrade every new product cylce or two. I'm not really suprised it happens with the phone as well. In fact, I'm pretty sure other companies are the exact same - In the corporate world blackberry users are similar in upgrading to newer models.
I've got a 3GS but I'll wait until the next one to come out (4G model?). Although it's the iphone 4, I'm pretty sure it's still 3G technology AM

Exactly. I don't own an iPhone (it took years of griping from everyone for me to get a cellphone at all, and it's a cheap, basic, pay-as-you-go phone), but of the friends that have them, one waited in line for one yesterday. Everyone else says they'll wait until you can just walk in off the street and get one.

My personal plan is:
1. When my co-worker gets his (soon), do a side-by-side comparison, mostly interested in web page load speed and general responsiveness. 2. If iPhone 4 is much better, may upgrade now. 3. If iPhone 4 is not much better, wait 6 months to see if ATT network gets better and/or current rumours about VZ iPhone get more solid/are disproven. ATT network has improved in my area, but still needs to get better. Absent significant improvement, I'm reluctant to commit to another 2 years with ATT - would rather keep using my iPhone 3G for a while longer and then switch to an iPhone 4 on another carrier.

Just to support the point; the local CL ad's ...700+ people trying to dump their 3Gs'
![]() That's about double from a couple days ago. (a friend was checking for a cheap 3Gs) I would say prices have got to drop . . significantly.
