I have a 3G with 8gb and maybe 1gb used after almost 2 years. Who needs 16 or 32 gb? What are you downloading?

I do wonder about how much memory I need. Can I check my usage on my BB 9700? I don't plan to put music on my iPhone at all. I will use the camera and store photos there, but not a ton. I really do like the camera on my BB. It's better than my old Nikon CoolPix.

I've had my 3G for 2 years and am upgrading to a 4G soon. It has been an excellent phone. Trust me, I'm no Apple fanboy.

So at home the wife's ATT iPhone has good signal but your ATT BB does not? How is the signal at home with your new Verizon BB Curve?

I have the 16GB 3GS - frankly if you're not going to put loads of music and/or videos on it then the memory size is irrelevant. Hell I have almost 600 songs on mine, plus 30 or so pictures, 1 GB of apps and stuff, and it still has 10 GB free space.

My wife and kids are sporting the ATT Samsung Solstice (a simple touch screen device) and in our home (hilly area) they have full bars where my iPhone has anywhere from 2-3 bars and will drop 3G intermittently.

You can't go wrong with the iPhone but IMO if you're not tied to ATT then there are better options out there.

It all depends on what you are planning to do with the phone. I need a high power PDA and phone combo. Others need an iPod and Phone combo. There is no "best" answer, only what is best for you.

I'm just not really into the ergonomics of my BB Bold. They keys are much harder to type on than my BB Curve. I don't care for the slow Internet and my wife's phone just works better. My Verizon BB works better here too.

fwiw, some cool phones should be out next month. (not to say that there aren't cool phones out now) but WinMo7 will be launching with minimum standards of WVGA, and one of the phones will be WXGA! (will record and display 720p native!) ...yeah, the iP4 is behind the curve.

Quote:

The specs are as follows:

  • Launching: August/September 2010

  • CPU: Qualcomm QSD8650; 1.3GHz

  • CDMA + GSM (aka a World Phone)

  • EvDO + HSDPA

  • Device Size: 115 x 57.5 x 11.2 mm

  • Memory (RAM/ROM): 1GB/1GB

  • External Storage: MicroSD (up to 32GB)

  • Screen Size/Type: 3.8-inch capacitive AMOLED “Multitouch Supported”

  • Screen Resolution: WXGA 1280 x 720 px

  • Camera: 10-megapixel with flash and autofocus; HD 720p video@ 30fps

  • Video Support: Windows Media Video (WMV), MPEG-4 (MP4/M4V) H.264, DVR-MS4

  • Audio Support: Windows Media Audio (WMA), Advanced Audio Coding (AAC-LC), FairPlay DRM, MP3

  • Battery: Removable 1400 mAh

  • Talk Time: Up to 7.5 hours

  • Standby Time: 288 hours

  • Internet Use: 4.5 hours (3G), 6.5 hours (WiFi)

  • Video Playback: 10 hours

  • Audio Playback: 30 hours

Reportedly both Sprint and Verizon is set to carry the device, which is a CDMA/GSM world phone, coming around August/September 2010.

Are we ready to believe 720p screens and 10 megapixel cameras?* .

Although the 4.1" screen of the HTC HD2 is really where these hi-res screens need to be.

Well, that blows away the HD2. I might have to switch to Sprint for one of those...

yeah, but like I said, these hi-res "phones" (GPS/VidCamera/FM-tuner/internet browser/PC ...) really need the larger screen. (such as the HD2) ..maybe a bit bigger.

I expect that future 'phones' will make the current bunch look like a Zoolander phone.

screen size is one thing, density is another.

As for memory, I have a few apps on my 8gig 3G phone, about 750 songs, about 450 photos, and I still have empty space. I'm not a "tweaker" though - I want the phone to do a couple of things well and that is it. I don't customize it at all. I have my one non-standard mission critical app (iRealBook), a few "nice to haves" (polytune, some Chinese dictionaries) and that is it. How much memory depends on what you want/need to do.

Hey Rick, I just got a 4 and am selling my 3G 16GB on CL. I'll give you a deal if you want to meet up.

That's what I'm say'n...

Density (ppi) is getting too high.

Here's my old HTC (WVGA on a 3.6" screen) --about as bad as the new iP4

I mean, sure, it displays a whole lot of information (in this case 3Gs ad's on Seattle's CL) ...
But, such high resolution is not so easy to read. --while I CAN read it, it's not easy.

. . . the text is the same size as on the dime "E PLURIBUS...

The same pixel-count on a 4.1" screen makes a very nice improvement on readability.

Let's talk. Is you 3G already on CL? I've found a few folks wanting to trade on CL, but my BB Bold is in new condition and I kind of want an iPhone in similar shape.

Oh, Rick, just another thing about the HTC's; a few of them are 'world phones.' ...meaning they can roam on CDMA, GSM or even PCS networks.

I'm big on having the best possible coverage, which is why I have a HTC "world' phone with Verizon.

You are so lucky...

... and probably don't realized it.

In Canada there is no competition. It's either Bell or Rogers, both have the same plan pricing (double yours) and both screw us :
