Mobile phones...how long have you had your current version?

Well, it was finally time to bite the bullet. My antique Nokia was finally getting unreliable after 8-9 years or so as best I can recall. For a while my step kids changed phones about as often as I changed underwear. They either broke them or lost them or had to upgrade. Stepson just got the updated I4...of course he had one of the first Iphones but his old one "broke" just as the I4 came out. I bet he's had 10 diffferent phones in the last 4 years. Whatever...he pays for it.

I went down and tried to get a basic phone that was fairly durable. I didn't need no stinking camera or bluetooth earpiece or internet or games or whatever they come with now. I use it to talk on and to text once in a blue moon. Just want something that holds a charge and gets decent reception. Dayum they come with everything from swiss army knives to gps to microwave ovens as features.

Anyway...settled some Samsung Rugby 2 as recommended for a durable phone...a bit heavier than most but shock/waterresistant supposedly. Still has way too many features than I'll ever need.

What say you? Kudos to anyone carrying around one of the Motorola bricks. How long have you had your ciurrent mobile phone?

Old faithful and its replacement:

I'm guilty of playing musical phones. I've had my current one since november and I'll probably get a new one this november. Before that, I had an Iphone 3g for about a year and a half and an iPhone for about a year before that.

About 18 months on my iPhone 3G.
I seem to get a new phone about every 2 years.

22 months on my current iPhone. I keep them until they break, which newer phones seem to do more easily now...

Four years now with the Blackberry Bold series. Like it and no plans to change. Only possible option would be the Droid... am not gay enough to have any apple product. (flak vest on! )

Ditto here except BB World 8830. I will upgrade to another BB. Agree with the fruit comment too.

I have been in the cell phone game for almost 7 years so I would say I have probably had at least 50, I have been stuck on the Iphone since last fall though.

The rugby is a good phone, I have seen a couple come in for repair but Samsung and Nokia are both know to put out good reliable phones.

I am losing the love for my BB Bold. I just got a BB Curve from my company and like it a lot more. I am trying to figure out how I can trade my BB Bold for an iPhone. My wife's iPhone works a lot better in our house than does my Bold.

Well that makes me feel better...I walked into the ATT store 10 minutes before they closed, told them what me needs were and was out in about 8 minutes. The selections are overwhelming.

Every 2 years; heavily used in my line of work.
I see the phone as a tool not a weapon; nick named it "Cash Register" years ago and love to hear it ringing!

As for features..... you're missing the boat Due
Email, texting, surfing from your phone are all excellent tools.
Embrace what our youth know, for they have a far greater understanding than anyone gives them credit for; imo fwiw. We live in exciting times

Cheers,

I've been a PDA and phone user for years (2000?). I needed a phone combined with a PDA, and now a source for a mobile internet connection.

I swap about every 2 years

2004 < some sort of Motorola flip phone with a PDA using a serial cable.
2004-2005 Treo 600
2005-2006 Treo 650
2006-2008 Treo 680
2008 AT&T Tilt (sold to buy Treo Pro)
2008-2010 Treo Pro
2010 HTC HD2

The main reason for upgrading this time was to take advantage of the faster 3.5G speeds. I use my phone when I'm not in the office/house as an internet connection. I do prefer the regular keyboard, but I'm getting used to the soft keyboard.

Upgraded to the Bold 9700 four months ago and love it. Just a skosh smaller yet faster yet and seems a bit more reliable.

2 years on my iPhone 3G. I would love a 4, but don't have a reason to drop $300 on a phone right now. The 3G is living on borrowed time, though - I never get more than 18 mos out of a phone before it dies.

I replace my phone every two years weather it is worn out or not. My current phone is an LG ENV-Touch. Its a year old and I have already had to have it replaced once. Its a great phone with the exception of the touch screen. The screen is un-responsive or blanks out frequently.
I have had the same cell # since 1985. My first phone was made by GE.

I think I've had a mobile phone for 20 years, starting with a bag phone. Usually change phones every 3 or 4 years, not with every two year renewal. I switched to ATT from Verizon in January because Verizon doesn't work internationally, that is the main reason, got an iPhone 3Gs because of a few apps for traveling.

Had my first phone about 6 years, then it was so out dated it would not work well. Next phone was for 4 years. Current phone is about 2 years old. Some sort of Motorola, not a razor, as they are purported to be fragile I use it solely for telephone calls
