Cyclists - Death Ride Registration!

Registration opened about ten minutes ago for the 2010 Markleeville Death Ride. It's a rush style registration. Took me a couple of tries to get through.

I know there's alot of Pelican cyclists, so I thought I'd post this - here's the registration short cut. See ya on ALL FIVE PASSES!!!

Sounds fun. Better put on your 50/34 and 12-27.

That's real close to what I have! For some reason, I think my granny is a 25. I plan to renew my friendship with the 34/25 combination - LOL! I know I have a 12-27 casette around somewhere... Maybe dig it up just before the ride.

Talewind - just enter! Train by dragging a trailer! It'll be fun! Trust me!

Angela,

Get a cyclocross crankset. 46/30 or something. Also good to know is Shimano short cage RDs can handle 30 T gears.

You'll be climbing like a mountain goat with a setup like that.

Yeah. I've never had a triple. In fact, I don't ride compact either. I'd rather go for a 27 to 30 in back with a standard 53/39, though those days may be drawing to a close as I get older.

I'm running a 52/39/30 front with a 12-27 rear. I can walk up some hills faster than when I'm in "Super Low".

You know, I actually have a very nice 'cross bike. It came with the 46/30 and I swapped in a mountain bike triple. What was really cool is that my 600 shifters are able to hit all three.

If it starts looking ugly before the ride, I may suit up the 'cross bike with slick tires and just take it. But here's to TRAINING for the event and taking the road rocket!

Go baby go!

AWESOME! Did you do all 5? Best suggestions for survival and training (I'm a tough rider, but climb slow)? Right now I'm doing a ton of core work and some pretty hard indoor training. Obviously I should climb, climb, climb?

You know, the main reason to ride this is that I have coveted the "Death Ride Jersey" for years! I have GOT to earn myself a 5 pass jersey!

Did all 5. The 1st. 3rd. and 4th time, bailed on the 2nd. time.
In the past when I did this event I was racing. Power to weight, very important be lean and have the miles in your legs and you will do great.
Drink lots of energy drinks early in the event, the time lag for replenishment of essential minerals & stuff to your muscles takes a while, very often overlooked.
you will do great!

I signed up. And yes, I'll be heading back to CA next summer to do it. I'm also doing two other local centuries around here as training rides come spring. Lots of time on the trainer and out running right now.

Tried to do it this past year but personal issues got in the way of training hard enough. I contemplated going anyway but figured it wasn't worth torturing myself when I had doubts as to my ability. Now that I've got (most) of the other personal issues in my life settled (like moving, family, new job, etc.) I can start refocusing my efforts onto training, which is nice.

Hope to run into some of you guys up there!

That is a pretty stellar ride, I have done parts of it.

I would like to do a cross country tour with a truck and some bicycles, maybe pulling one of those pop up trailers or a little tear drop.

Go to Glacier Park and do the Going to the Sun Road. That was a hoot coming down, took a good part of the day to get to the top, cold and fast back to the lake. Yosemite, Yellowstone, Moab, and so on. Some I have been fortunate enough to have gone to, some not yet.

6 or 8 or even double digit grades are rough going up, but you always get to fly down the other side.
