All Ceilings should be white

Help me out guys, we have been remodeling our home, and my lady and I are in disagreement.
I feel that in most situations, ceilings should be painted white, bright white. It seems to me that ceilings painted wall color only work in certain areas, like maybe in a den, or gameroom with the right kind of lighting.
If she paints a room baby blue, she wants to paint the ceiling the same color. Our whole house was like this before I came in the picture, blech!!. Almond rooms with almond ceilings, just makes the room look dark ,dirty, and smaller.
We are doing our bathroom, and the toilet/sink and tub are biscut color (light almond). and she wants to paint the ceiling to match the tub/sink/ toilet.
Am I wrong?

White ceilings belong in slum apartments, hospitals and mental institutions.

Go with exposed wood framing if possible. Or something that has some character.

I can't stand the over-use of white paint in residential design these days. God almighty - if you're that concerned about the lighting add a couple of fixtures or a skylight. Jeezus.

Rather than paint the ceiling wall color, add some wall color to the ceiling paint.

V^2 makes a great point with ceiling paint. Tongue and groove wood ceiling can be pretty cool, too. But not with a dark stain. Unless you're living in a lodge.

My office has green walls and a light brown ceiling with bisque trim around the doors and windows.

My bedroom has brick colored walls, and the same light brown ceiling and bisque trim.

We will be painting the rest of the house (which is currently all white) after our kitchen redo is complete in August.

Your lady is right -- no white ceilings!

I was a white ceiling guy until about 4 years ago when we had someone help us with room colors. I thought you got to be kidding but it really looks great and will never go back to white. They are just slightly tinted too.

Off white, not bright white. 20 years ago there was a trend for dark ceilings and light walls.

Call it the dark ages.

Painting the ceiling wall color gives the illusion of height because the wall does not seem to end. This can backfire if the color is too dark.

As a painter in another life, I can you tell you that if you want a white ceiling go for a matte white. It will hide any blemishes and it will give height to the ceiling as it casts no reflection.

Yes. Paint it any color she wants. Better to sleep with her in a crappy looking house than sleep alone in one with white ceilings.

I'm a white ceiling guy. Wall colored ceilings just don't do it for me.

Argh, this is a bad subject with me. I've just finished painting (painted it WHITE) over a dark blue ceiling. Actually the whole room was dark blue, it looked black. Something like a dope smokers haven from back in the '70s. Phew it took a few coats to kill the dark blue but I did it.

In the master bedroom a mirrored ceiling always lends a sophisticated touch. But avoid the mirror with gold veins running through it - unless, of course, the mirror has the correct pink caste to the glass and the wall color is a violet hue, which combination is the epitome of class and refined taste, especially in conjunction with a properly raked mauve shag rug and a kingsized bed and a bedspread with a big duck on it.

We wanted our ceilings to be something besides white, so we painted them a color named "Winter Wheat." It's a light tanish, yellowish color - not super light liker white, but light enough. We're really happy with it. The walls in each room, except for the study, hallway, & a bedroom (which are a copper tone - Copper Mine) are different colors. All of the women and most of the men who see it like it a lot. Nice to go into a different room & see a different color.

I quite like white ceilings and walls...

But then again... if I had my way... My apartment would have white walls, black wood work and brushed nickel hardware....
