Bumperstickers against tailgaters
Let me start by saying that blocking the left lane should be a ticket....unless it's a dedicated lane. But the same for obtuse speeding.
I'm a curtious driver usually, but lately things have gotten out of control. Recently, in a 30mph zone(with most going 35-45), in the right lane I slowed down to a whopping 25mph while passing an accident on the other side of the street, and people absolutely flipped out. The yakker behind my glued herself to my bumper, and the one behind her laid on its horn. OMG! Five mph under! Freak out! Same thing has happened many times on 30mph roads, where I'll slow down [i]to the speed limit[/] in tight situations involving bikes/pedestrians/busses/etc... It's just common sense, and respect, and playing with others lives. People would be fighting all over the place if they had that behaviour person-to-person, but get in a moving box and they become removed and invincible. So here are some ideas: Caution. Slow driver on board. 2 slow? 2 bad! 350hp under the hood? Ha ha. You're late again? Your time, your problem. Panic, get angry, have heart attack, die. Please. Hurry, your next accident awaits. Buy this car, get closer, Eat tasty bumper. Yum yum. (crossed out)Rear-bumper "buddy"(crossed out). You must be VIP, but where's your enterage? Unappologetic rolling road-block. |

Move out here and see how long you last with one of those silly bumper stickers. If the accident was on the other side of the street what the hell are you looking at? Keep on driving.

The gf got a small love-tap in traffic the other day. It was a young appologetic kid, and she's willing to work it out with his parents.
The cost of a basic fix? $1,300. |

In Michigan, the law is "Stay Right, Left to Pass". I saw a sign stating this on I 96 last week. One could assume that this would apply to any road of 2 or more lanes in the same direction.
I have to use the right lane when in my work vehicle but it would be nice if people used the passing lane as intended instead of parking there going 72 when other lanes are open. My favorite sticker is "Unless you are a hemmoroid get off my a$$!!"

I think what sets people off is when other drivers do not behave in a predictable manner. Meaning there are behaviors that we come to expect/anticipate as a norm. Those behaviors may not always conform to the law but they are what most of us have "agreed" to.
Example is a one lane with a solid white line on the right side. If a vehicle stops to make a left turn off that road we go around it on the right shoulder. Technicaly not legal but we do it and when someone stops behind turning vehicle it breaks the flow and is unexpected behavior. |

"I brake-check tailgaters" (and my all-time favorite - it can be used for so many situations including this one): "Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part".

Not that I care much but "brake checking" is illegal out here, if you get rear ended doing it you are at fault. According to my traffic school cop.

Good luck proving that someone "brake checked" you when you rear-end them. Let me know how that goes next time.....
"You didn't see the kitten that ran out into the road?..." There is a good reason why the person who did the rear-ending is always at fault. Because it's always avoidable if you are driving in a safe and legal manner. Period. |

I have no doubt that slamming on your brakes in traffic for the purpose of causing an accident or near-accident is illegal, (unsafe driving), it's just that you'd have to do it to a cop to get caught. Nearly impossible to prove after the fact that there was no legit reason to brake suddenly.
Much better plan to not tailgate or rear-end people. |

How about "Objects in mirror are loosing!" No but seriously, how can any words counter the A-holes behind you? I'm just glad I don't live around LA.

Around here, "stay right except to pass" is a courtesy, not a law. They do have signs that say slower traffic keep to the right, but nobody pays attention. It's frustrating as all hell, even when you get behind them, not tailgating, but close enough to let them know you want to pass, with the middle/right lane empty, and they do nothing. If they're paying that little attention to their driving, what other things are they going to miss? I usually don't wait that long before passing on the right, but I'm no stranger to flashing my high-beams a bit. Never close enough for a bump, though - if I'm anywhere near, I'm not looking at their car, I'm looking ahead of it, either through it or around it. Lessons learned from the track.

Slowing down to a manageable speed is just common sense and will save money and lives. If it delays someone for 5 minutes, so be it. |

I would think that having a bumpersticker with a stupid slogan on it and driving in a manner designed to aggravate people behind you would make people tailgate you more. You are trying to precipitate a case of road rage perhaps?
