Large attachments.

I wonder what the story is on why he ejected?

I've looked at this video and it looks like the plane was almost upside down when he ejected, yet the trajectory of the set was up. Is there some sort of automatic directional control on which direction the seat (and pilot) goes?

The fricken AWESOME Martin-baker ejection seat is a zero-zero seat meaning zero altitude/zero airspeed capable safe envelope ejection seat. also it has a gyro stabilized system that self rights from unusual attitudes at or near ground level. 2M worth of safety! Ask any pilot!!!!

Looks like leading edge slats and flaps were out and it also looks like the port turkey feathers are open and the Starboard engine is tightened up.

I speculate he was doing some sort of low speed / High drag demo like a high AOA pass and lost the STBD turbine. The F-18 doesn't yaw terribly bad when you lose an engine in the normal flight envelope, but in a high thrust maneuver.. just speculating.

yep engine out, asymmetric thrust, slow speed, beyond the capability of the aircraft, computer recommends ejection, BOOM!

Scary is ejecting and then having the fireball just about right under your butt.

It appears as if you nailed it with the "low speed pass" speculation. I found a link:

I hope the bar setup owner rigged the handles so the seat vibrates, or goes pop, or something when you pull the handles. You know somebody will.
