The slowdown happend to me earlier today. I hit the post quick reply and waited for over a minute. Most of the time it is fast. It just seems to freeze up every once & and while.

Wayne, as I mentioned in the original thread (at least the most recent one), I felt bad about bringing it up if it was going to be a matter of frustration to you. It shouldn't be. I was looking for input about my connection.

I've noticed that my connection speed will vary all day. And, I think I've noticed that speed has nothing to do with double posts or slow loading. Had a little trouble 4 hours ago, things have been pretty good since.

As always, thanks for the playpen for us unemployed and those that can play from work. In fact, thanks for a 24/7 playpen.

Also the "quick reply" uses Javascript / AJAX to post the reply to the screen - it's highly dependent upon the browser functioning properly. It works better on Firefox than IE I've seen...

Sometimes the post will already have been posted, and the browser doesn't think so. I've seen that before - the server is done in 1 second, but the browser is confused for some reason, and just sits there waiting. If you go back and refresh, you'll see your post there (most of the time).

I saved a double post:

Wayne,

If you can get someone that is running slow to install the firebug plugin for firefox and display the 'net' tab results when posting... that may narrow down the issue.

Here's an example of the results with a decent response time...

EDIT:crap... that shrunk too much. point is that it identifies each call and the length of time each takes. it can help to identify things that are hanging up.

I have noticed an issue with the double post warning redirect in the last week. I think it happens when I've had the browser open too long- using a fresh one seems to fix the problem. Must go stale after a few hours of sitting.

This thread reminds me of a call to India for tech support.

"No sir, we are not having a problem with our server. It must be your problem, because it doesn't happen to us."

The slow and lock happens to me too. Happens with my home broad band, 3G iPhone and the T1 at work.

When it happens I go to another site and come back after a while and it's fine.

Love those intermittent problems. Just like going to the dealer.....again and again to find out it was a loose solder on a crappy connector.
