I hevent spent much time in south florida....but what I have experienced, if you have money it can be pretty easy to enjoy, but if your houshold brings in less that 100k a year then you may find it challenging to enjoy the good stuff.....
We have disney passes so can escape and hit the parks, but there is lots to do no matter what you enjoy.....and yes, there are lots of racetracks around......autocrosses.....you name it..... Beaches are abundant and within an hour for either coast...... Sports teams.....etc..... The OP needs to see what's out there for him..... As I said, the wife and I took a week and came down, I found a job and house and 3 weeks later I was here (she came down 1.5 months later as she had loose ends to tie up...... And having lived in the midwest for 34 years the weather down here more than makes up for all the negatives LOL |
I was in Orlando in July on business...I'll take the Chicago winters over that humidity, but to each their own.
|
You get used to the heat and humidity after a few weeks, I moved down in the middle of june, by august I was acclimated and anything under 70 degrees I am freezing, the human body will quickly adjust after a few weeks......I flew home in aug of 2008 to drive the 911 down from ohio and even though it was 70 degrees when I got off the plane I had to put on a long sleeve shirt and a hoodie I was so cold.....

http://www.chinaunlimited.net/disney1996plate2.jpg Went to Disney once. Couldn't get out of there fast enough. It seems the entire over-weight population of the MidWest was tele-ported there at the same time. Maybe it was "Jenny Craig Day"? Orlando = http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...leys/sleep.gif |
if you think that the only thing to do in orlando is disney then you are narrow minded........

My brother came back from looking a job in Florida years ago and he said, "All they want to pay is sunshine, If you dont bring it with you, you ll not make it here"
Bruce |
Yes that's kind of true......but as I said, there certainly are exceptions.....
Which I why you need to find "the job" before you commit..... The job I took in ocala seemed promising on the surface, paid very well.....but unfortunately the guy was a thief and a liar..... I'm in a MUCH better situation now, and wouldn't have come into it if a string of ****ty luck didn't happen as it put certain events into play..... There are jobs that will pay, but you need to find them, luck and timing are involved..... Right now it's about 75 degrees, crickets and frogs are chirping away and I'm sitting on my front porch drinking a beck's......life is good..... |
Im coming honey!!!

orlando certainly has it's cesspools but if you do your research and get local knowledge there are certainly diamonds in the rough...... QUOTE] Great advice. My son blindly moved down to Orlando ,"right down the road from Disney!...." on a whim without doing any research. He ended up in one of the most disgusting *****holes I've ever seen. |
Finding "the job" before you commit, that's an excellent advice........................................;):) However, I take you back some 22 years ago, there I was sitting in Puerto Rico after been laid off from working for Crowley on the Tug Boats, and on that day I decided that I should try the U.S.A. To the local newspaper store I went and purchased a newspaper from Orlando Florida, the main reason it was a growing city without Snow. I took the paper home, I opened the real estate map section, I closed my eyes, and I point to a location on the map, I opened my eyes and my finger landed in West Colonial Drive, I took a loan for 1k from my Mother and within two days I was on my way, one small suitcase and my BMX bike, I applied to every single place that repaired Diesel engines, I even went to one of the places five times, and finally they hired me cutting grass at $6.50 an hour, from there It was a journey until a day like today that I work for one if not the biggest Medium Speed Diesel engines manufacture in the world. Today's is much more difficult to pull such of stuns. However, sometimes you have to gamble in life to get somewhere; at times we are so cautious that we are our number one enemy.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat.gif |
