Thats exactly what I did when I was 18- I moved into this dump off of John Young PKWY that was drug infested dump- no fun.

Juan, thats a hell of a story. The reason I landed there specifically was because of tech school- otherwise it may have been somewhere else. But like others have said, Orlando has its fun to it. Nothing like cruising International blvd and seeing some of the tourist women running around with short clothing on... Or grabbing some beers and walking around Old Town on one of the cruise nights... There is some stuff to do there.

As for securing a job before I go- of course! I'm not going anywhere until there is a job waiting, thats why I am looking now...

Vin, was it called "Hunter's Creek"??

bell 08-30-2010 07:41 AM

Obt....I.e. Crack whore strip LOL

When I moved to florida I landed in ocala, I was shooting for orlando but that's where the job was.....it was a stepping stone as I look at it.....now I'm in a better "place", just took 2 years, had I found something in the 1 week window I had when we were on our reconasance trip it couldve been different.....but that was the one option which would pay....so ocala it was.....
Juan that's a crazy story, but having a vast body of water to cross certainly limited you on how to do it :D

Cant remember. I think it was "Something Arms"?? I remember when i went down to vist right after he moved, I freaked when I started getting closer to his address and noticed the element in the area. He found the place through a realtor online, that said it was a "nice development".

He was in a few places until he finaly got out of there.

nocarrier 08-30-2010 09:16 AM

South Florida.......

"Sunny Place"

"Shady People"

bell 08-30-2010 10:58 AM

Yea I looked into hunters creek, looked great from the highway, once I got into one of the "nicer" developments I was met with out of date housing, and had to wait 10 minutes for someone who spoke english.
clebration is the exact opposite, we get a lot of brits on vacation but they're always pleasant.....mostly....
Everything I always clean and well kept.....and always something going on in the downtown area be it the farmers market to special events like exotic car show etc.....

Ok, so in addition to getting pissed off about finding a job- now the other thing that is pissing me off is trying to find a house to rent... Do these exist in the (30 mile) greater area around Boca Raton? I want to rent a house because I need a garage to do minor repairs to my car and I cannot find any- I only come up with apartments and condos and I dont want either of them. Someone please enlighten me- Am I searching for unobtainium here? Is this the Slantnose washer bottle of home inquiries in this region?

Danny_Ocean 08-30-2010 03:26 PM

Should be plenty of homes for rent in Boca. The further west you go, the more affordable (except for the "ghetto" near downtown/RR tracks...affordable homes, but you wouldn't want to live there).

How old are you? Try Deerfield Beach/Hillsboro, Delray Beach and Coral Springs. Be sure the home isn't in foreclosure and be sure you're dealing with the owner or a manager who has a signed contract with the owner. TONS o' scams/scammers here.

There are also a lot of vacant shops/warehouses available at very reasonable rents. You can get a condo in a nice part of town and rent a shop for your projects elsewhere. There's one next to mine for rent @ $800/mo. (1000 s/f). 500 s/f can be had for $450.

So Boca Raton is your final destination? let me know so I can see how we can help you,

I don't know whats your budget bur here is a website to search and I found you a nice home :D

My budget is.... ummm.... beer budget- Im looking to spend about 1000-1250/ month. I am not looking directly at Boca- but I want to be within 30 miles of it or preferably south.
Maybe that is how I have to do it, rent a cheap house and rent another small facility. Thank you for the links Juan.

Kris, have you consider Texas or more specifically Austin, tx? It really does have a bit of everything for everybody if you could stand the Texas heat. Plus I don't need to fly all the way out there to test drive your Porsche :D

oh and F1 is coming here if you care.

930gt-40r 08-30-2010 04:00 PM

Oh I have thought about Texas- I think it could be real cool, but the idea of me moving to FL is so I could stay within a day's drive of home and the fact that I think that it would be a serious property investment oppertunity for someone looking to stay more than 5 years+. I do see a conflict of interest with you wanting me to move closer ;) . Ive lived in FL and I liked it in the past so its a safe bet.
Now if Miami could get an F1 track....

VINMAN 08-30-2010 04:15 PM

My wife wants to move to FL eventually. Only way I will go is if by some miracle, I can afford a house in the Keys.

The rule of thumb (except for Boca) is to avoid the area immediately around 95. Go further west or closer to the ocean. Deerfield (for example) has a rough patch in that area.

I have driven most of Florida for 10+ years & I can't say that I would live in many areas. Nice in the winter, but the summers truly suck. And the traffic - almost everywhere - really, really sucks - esp in the 'season'. The traffic lights even seem much longer then anywhere else. I can't think of anything positive to say about the inhabitants.

Boca is going to be tough to find something nice that's not a condo for that money......anywhere near the coast it going to be pricey.....
You may look farther north to say the jensen beach/pt.st. Lucie, they've been hit incredibly hard by the housing bubble burst so there are some killer deals there.
The advice to find something not in forclosure is sound, I would suggest finding a property management company to look through, a condo/townhouse may be your best bet, the find an off site place to toy with your cars......also cutting grass in the heat sucks, so try to rent something where you're not responsible for lawncare......
If you're planning on buying a house I would still start off renting to get acclimated to the different areas....

I'll take the 3 months of very hot summer over the 5 months of cold crappy northern weather forever......lived in that **** for 35 years......

Haven't heard from my guy yet, I'll pm when I do.....a call is in.....

juan ruiz 08-30-2010 04:55 PM

I Guess most of us got Floriclimated :D with the heat, I be the first to tell you that when is that hot is simple, stay in AC, about the traffic is bad at times but with today's nice comfort creatures like cars with ac,leather seats, tint windows and speaker phones a bad ride can be turned into a nice ride, oh and if you can multi task you can also text :D:eek::rolleyes:

Now "IF" we talk about Miami :eek:now we are talking about another country:D you get mentally prepared, bring your Spanish dictionary and you will be set :D

One little detail in case you didn't consider it: Florida is a "right of work" state like all the states from VA south. Coming from the unionized NE you may be used to a higher wage rate for comparable jobs in the South, and Florida is one on the lower end of the scale. In Florida generally the money goes to the owner, not the wage earner.

Juan.....I'm already here......LOL
Been here 2 years and never looked back north.....
Being an hour from the gulf or the atlantic is nice........
and an hour in florida driving is = to about 80-90miles......nothing compared to an hour up north where an hour will get you maybe 50 miles since everything curves and has hills.....
