So trying to move to Florida...
Some of you may have seen that I am selling my 930 in the cars for sale section... Well as soon as that is gone, I am trying to move out of the arctic northeast and get down to Florida. Now my question is- does anyone here know of any decent sales rep or low level management jobs (in automotive or medical device industries preferred...) But the point is that I am going to need a job with some growth potential and I will move anywhere where there is decent employment. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I would highly suggest to take a week or so and come down first to secure employment before you move......I landed in ocala first which was a mistake......
In orlando now, work in winter park (porsche tech), and am an hour from both coasts. Miami is a bit too nutty for me, orlando is just right..... Pm me if you need local info....in orlando 2 blocks can be a perfect little area, then the next pure ghetto so you need some good local info as to where to live..... My other advice is to not buy a house unless you strike a good deal, be prepaired as most everything is mcmansion style and in an hoa, homowners insurance is outrageous, and expect all car insurance to double..... That being said with no state tax it evens out and costs the same to live here as ohio did for us.....

Kris,
Have you spent any significant amount of time in FL? Please re-consider. I am on the next boat out of here (SoFLA)...and it ain't getting any better (unless you're from the Third World...then it's paradise). |

Danny, I know exactly what you are talking about- but up here in Soviet Connecticut its not much better...
I used to live in Orlando when I went to Universal Technical Institute back in 04'. Orlando was cool, but I want to go further south as I have heard that it was more fun. But I have to say, living here in Connecticut has some nice parts, but when I have to put my toys away for 5 months out of the year, its not cool. Juan, Thanks for the link- I havent tried that one yet- that teaser has me amped up Bell- what part of Orlando do you live in? I do remember seeing the dealer that you work for when I used to live there. I lived in a crappy little apartment on John Young Pkwy (Town center I believe?) I agree with what you say about it being nice in one part and a dump 10 feet later...

Kris, you should maybe take a look from Jacksonville and to the north before committing. I mean into SC. Might be good automotive opportunities in Charlotte.

I used to live in Ft Myers ('80-'82) and I would look at the Jacksonville/St.Augustine area as the weather is better and you're not as far away from other places...

If you go south of Orlando, be ready to speak spanish. It's really not good going to south florida for so many reasons.

Imo the ocala gainsville areas don't have much to offer, the unemployment rate in marion county (ocala) is one of the highest in the state.....
Personally moving to ocala is a horrible idea unless you are retired....gainsville has the gators but that's about it..... Orlando will give you a lot of options as it has a bit of every type of industry......just need to be selective on where to live.... Celebration is an excellent bubble to live in, I can leave my car parked outside with the windows down and nobody will touch it, we're surrounded by woodlands, i-4, and the 417 so the scumbags can't easily get in to cause trouble..... Its very central for getting to about 80% of orlando even though its on the south side.... my drive to winter park everyday is about 30 miles, takes about 35-50 minutes depending on traffic and time of day and which highway I take.... There are a lot of forclosures everywhere, even here.....so if you're looking to buy that may be an option. But check what insurance will cost as it is very expensive to own... I pay about $1100/mo for our 2bd/2ba/2car garage rental, it's about 1100 sqft iirc....utilities (wat/elec) are between 250-400/mo depending on time of year....renters ins is a couple hundred per year for rental ins... its quiet, no crime, and always something to do.......

personally the best move i've made was the move to celebration/orlando......
i got a break when i landed my porsche tech gig, and have never been happier..... there are certainly opportunities here......most of the negative opinions i hear are pretty centralized to specific areas, which is why i stress to do your research as to where to live...... yea florida has a very high unemployment rate, and is actually higher than reported as if you don't qualify for unemployment your situation isn't recorded....i'd figure to add another 5% to the "official" rate at a minimum.......most of the country is like this right now...... however, find you're niche, exploit it and there is work out there......that's why i say land a job before you move......i picked celebration for it's location, and reputaion.....i could've saved some $$ per month living somewhere else, but the security and quality is worth the extra cheeze..... orlando certainly has it's cesspools but if you do your research and get local knowledge there are certainly diamonds in the rough...... i did over a year of research before we moved from ocala to orlando (prepping for what was going on in my old situation) and only found 2 communities which fit the bill....
