Try "Primal Leadership" by R. Boyatzis and A. McKee.

Leadership is always emotional in structure and execution.

We are talking about leadership skills and not about an acting part in a Hollywood movie. What U are describing is the superficial and that is a dime a dozen poseurs on any street corner in the world.

What I am talking about is the ability to move the fking world. Just like that old EF Hutton commercial on TV..when EF Hutton speaks everybody stops and listens.

I think it was I that said on the Dear DJmcmath Thread that to be truly great it is a matter of a combination of intellect and heart.

Decision making has to do with emotion. I think I have explained a lot of that in my Threads in assessing the Obama personality and why he is ultimately a failure as a leader.

Two points:

1 - While leadership is a process at which I am continuing to improve, I have already survived Leadership 101. I have successfully led teams in The Real World to achieve hard goals, and have learned a lot doing it. I'm not asking "What makes a great leader?" though there are a lot of solid answers to that effect here. What I'm asking is about a hole in my leadership skill, which is portraying confidence and strength, especially at the first impression.

2 - I think that what a lot of you are suggesting is that "command presence," that ability to convey confidence, comes from long experience in leadership. In order to get it, what I really need to do is just keep leading people. Eventually, after years of continued success, I will exude confidence?

Thanks,
Dan

You may. And you may manifest other traits like being humble, yet satisfied.

More likely you will be the same person you always have been.

Have you seen the show? Its actually very impressive, and I believe, completely germane to what Dan was asking for.
