I want to get better at chess. How to go about it?
I used to play a lot but it's been 15 or so years since my last game. I'd like to take it up again but don't know anyone close by who's even interested in it. So, chess masters, if you were in my shoes how would you go about picking up your game?

Play online, and play often. Read good books about strategy.

Get a computer game and play the computer. I like the ones that will let you swap sides. You can be convinced the game is un-winable and swap sides. The computer will show you how it is done. Once you get good and can win on the high setting you are GOOD.

There are online chess clubs where you play a human - if you get tired of playing a computer.

This is a great site Welcome to ChessWorld
Met some great people on there. After a few games, your rating settles down and you can see how good you really are ![]()
