Options For A Cane?

The sad fact is that for about 1 month a year, I use a cane. I don't think it's right and hope to change it, bt that is what the past year and a half of data shows. Facts is facts, sad or otherwise.

So, is there anything cool, interesting, attractive, or useful I can get in the cane department?

I mean, like:
- A cane with internal alcohol flask that says "I am a lame hobo".
- An elegant polished brass and fine wood thing that says "I may look like a lame hobo but I am actually a gentleman, or I mugged one".
- A deceptively heavy and solid stick that says "I may look like a lame hobo but I am not defenseless against muggers".
- A cane with a sheathed sword blade, that says "sorry you are dying but you shouldn't have mugged a lame hobo".

I will say that, when I am hobbling around with the cane, I do feel a tad weak/vulnerable. Like a target.

Ideas? At one time, didn't every gentleman carry a smart walking stick?

I think if you can find one that meets all of those criteria, you have a winner.

A sword cane is illegal in California, I think.

My brother has one with a flask. Get a shillelagh, the deceptively stout stick.

Why is it you need a cane a month a year?

This one would probably serve as a deterrent:

It has a sword in it as well!

My gout attacks. I need a cane when they are bad, usually only for a couple days, but sometimes they last longer. So far, it's been adding up to about a month a year, that's the cumulative total of the intermittent three-legged periods.

If it's illegal in Kalifornia that makes me want to have it all the more on general principle.

Sword cane? Cool!

I have a very good friend who can make you a custom sword-cane.

I have a mop-sword made by him

Have one made the seperates into num-chucks (I probably didn't spell that right). You know, the sticks attached together that badass ninjas use as weapons and goof balls make really funny u-tube videos with!

(you of course, would be in the badass ninja category).

Cut back on the red meat and booze, that should help, not as much fun but you save money and don't need the cane.

This is probably not the place to put this, but I am going to do it anyway.

I had gout for 20 years before it was correctly diagnosed. In that time, it went from the simple extemities up/in to my elbos and knees. It was brutal. The term of the attacks trended longer and longer.

When it was finally diagnosed, I was told that I should get on the medication as every attack degraded my joints. Imagine having sand in a joint on your car...not good.

I started on medication about 5 years ago. They gradually upped the dosage and now I can say that I have not had a gout attack in 3 years.

What I am trying to say is forget about the cane and take the medication.

Why not just make a cane? I hastily made this one as a christmas present for my now deceased grandfather a few years back out of some old cherry wood I found in his barn. It had been cut from his woods about 50 years ago. You can buy the rubber cane tips from the local pharmacy.
