During their unveiling it is rumored that Ferrari have organised for the back of the F150 to demonstrate how many bales of hay it can hold...

Yeah but do think Ford would take that lying down? Would someone issue a sept 11 tribute car and call it the 911, would Porsche approve? Its only the worlds best selling truck I think.

In 63 years Italy has had 62 governments.

Why don't they call it the Ferrari 62?

Ferrari should sue Ford.

I don’t see why Ferrari needs Ford’s approval. The car in question is a racecar, not for public sale, and is created for a race series that 99% of Americans could care less about. What’s the issue?

Why was the venerable Porsche "911" not named the "901" as originally intended again?

Hmmm...

History repeating?

I believe that Peugeot already had dibs on the "901" moniker.

Yea, but Porsche had a lot of race cars like the 904 & 908.

Have to defend the brand at all costs. Same reason Porschelist is now called Rennlist. Its a car, not an orange or a screwdriver. I could see a case for Ford easily.

Exactly. And also the only known time the Germans ever have been known to back down from the French...

The point is, it's already happened and the threat of lawsuit (by Peugeot) to protect their brand ID made Porsche back down. I dunno if the Italians will back down here, but if Ford threatens (which if they're smart, they will to protect their trademark on the best-selling passenger truck in history), they'll almost certainly need to...

Well then, I suppose Ferrari could always recoup their payout to Ford by suing GM...since they named their first muscle car after that certain Italian icon.

And by the the time the case begins, the 2011 season will be over and the F150 will be retired..... since it's just a chassis code. In addition, the best selling truck of all time is the F-150, not the F150. If the dash proves irrelevant, then Ford can also go after Mercedes for compromising the brand identity of the E-350 passenger van.
