Anybody have a new HP Laptop with issues?
I purchased a new HP pavilion dv7-4083cl about a month ago. Within two weeks i got an error message at boot up stating "System Fan 90B". I went to the HP "Award Winning" website and attempted to search for the error code 90b but no error code.
I called the service line and the guy had me download a new bios file. This did not immediately solve the problem the after a few boot ups, the fan went on. Today, the problem started again. i called the service line and was given completely new instructions (told to remove battery, unplug, hold the start button for 20 seconds, reinstall everything and reboot. Error code still exists. So the service gal states that I will have to send in the computer for a complete reset which will also delete all of my data - this is just great! She also told me that it will take 9 days. I cannot be without my computer which I use daily for work. I have installed my accounting system and have numerous clients files. I cannot just have this all erased - although I do have backups and I can use the computer to do this as well. I'm just ranting here and wondering if anyone else has had similar issues with HP laptops. I previously had a Dell and never had an issue in 5 years. Besides my HP laptop, I also have an HP Laser Printer that occasionally has glitches and costs a fortune in toner - I personally will never buy another HP product - EVER and maybe this can be a warning to anyone thinking of an HP laptop. |

I repaired an HP laptop for a friend back in March, I can say after seeing inside one, I wouldn't buy one for myself.

I only buy Dell laptops and desktops for just this reason. HP, Sony, Toshiba, Gateway all have poor web-based support and Dell's website is just what I need and I can always find what I'm looking for.

I would replace that HP with anything else at your earliest opportunity.
I had a HP DV7000 which experienced the common wireless card problems. Basically what happens is your wireless goes out and then shortly after the motherboard dies. It's a known problem and HP refuses to warranty them. I called customer service and when they answered was told that to even speak to me would cost $45. I told them to go **** themselves and got a Mac. |

I have a HP dv6000 series with AMD Turon and it has been (knock on wood) great. I have had no issues and would not hesitate to buy one again. My Dad has a Toshiba and friends have Acers and the are not put together as well and the Acer had issues. Ive dropped mine and thought I broke the case but it just clicked back together. Only replaced the battery adn it is 3+ yrs old.

I had an HP that required three mail-in repairs in 1 year. I eventually gave it away and will never purchase another HP product. Their customer service is also a complete joke, have fun spending hours on the phone with India.

Luckly for me - Costco has a 90 day return policy. I purchased this laptop on 10/05/2010.
I'm going to purchase a Dell this weekend, transfer my stuff, and then return this HP to Costco. I can't take chances with a computer that I use for work. I will miss the fingerprint scanner. |

Every Dell I've ever touched has been garbage. I have 2 HPs at home, and my company of 75,000 employees uses exclusively HP.
Just sayin'.

I could say the same about HP. I have had great luck with Dells over the years. HP, not so much. Toshiba sucks just as much.

My several year old Dell has a fingerprint scanner. I like Dell, but in my opinion their quality has gone south as they moved from the "custom order" online business model to a more retail store oriented product. I always get tasked with finding good computer deals for my computer illiterate family, over the past years I probably ordered 10 Dell laptops. The last few, including mine, were significantly cheaper in their construction. Several parts of my case have been loose since new, and the computer has been very buggy.
I just picked up a Sony Vaio for my wife and have been very impressed, it was under $600 at Office Max.
