Ya think?

It wasn't that bad really. I liked Tanner Foust. Ditch Rutledge Wood, he's just a whiney little twit . However, please don't replace him with A). a woman or B) a hip-hop artitst or C.) some overly tattooed LA car customizer. Adam Ferrara wasn't bad.

Top Gear USA would do well to develop its own indentity. They won't be able to match the personality dynamic of the British version so why even try.

That having been said, they would also do well to stay away from NHRA and NASCAR style events and commentary. If it were me, I would be in contact with the SCCA, Grassroots, and autocross crowds.

Maybe an email campaign would help the producers understand not everyone wants to watch NASCAR or NHRA?

If we don't let them know, they can't change it.

I wouldn't count on any changes coming from emails from us'n. Speed went from euro road racing to NASCAR all day and every day......the shows go where the money is. Billy Bob and Buttwiper will make the format.

I only made it about half way through. Totally uninspiring. It has nothing to do with domestic cars vs foreign. It was just a poorly done and boring show. I will watch many episodes of the real Top Gear two or three times just because the writing and visuals are so good.

What bothered me more than anything was how they felt the need to explain the premise behind the Stig. You will never see his face, he never talks, blah blah blah...."

If you do "clever" well, you dont need to give a "set up". Let the concept grow organically with your audience.

It would be like turning on The Office and seeing a thirty second intro saying, "as you watch this, you must recognize that Michael is a buffoon who's entire purpose it to create uncomfortable situations for the rest of the cast to deal with. Now, back to the show...."

Just do your bit, we are smart enough to figure it out!

I really don't know how Tanner Foust keeps getting these gigs as he is about as interesting as a mudpuddle. And the other two guys were worse! The video quality was terrible. The in-car shots looked like they were filmed by a epileptic with a cheap cell phone. The long range shots looked like CGI...it was weird, I actually thought I was watching animation a couple times.

I will give it another chance, but I dont expect much.

I don't think its fair to say that the show favored particular cars over another...in reality the show was just uninspiring. To all those that are trying to read into it - STOP! It was just a lousy show - DONE...that is all that needs to be said...I have equal interest in domestics and european imports but Top Gear is about passion no matter what you are talking about...

Remember the one where Clarkson trashed the long hood - classic.

What...really...it's not as good as the British version?

I enjoyed it because my expectations were low...taken on its own, it's still more entertaining than any of the other usual drivel that passes for a TV show.

The original is funny. The hosts having a go at each other. This one was not funny.

Entertaining enough as the cars were great, but I hope that the hosts find some chemistry soon. Rutledge and Adam are not very good, but I like Tanner. Overall, about what I expected...still the best American car show by miles.

Compared to the real Top Gear it was disappointing. But then, how could it not be? The bar is set so high.

Still compared to other car shows on cable, it wasn't bad.

Just downloaded and viewed. Not as bad as many are saying.

Content was decent but they really should have made it stand out from the brit show.

The same theme music, the Stig, lots of similar phrasing "and cross the line', silly star in a car segment, etc.

I will watch it again.

The original Top Gear is the BBC's most viewed world wide distributed series for good reason - all of it works beautifully: fantastic hosts with great personalities which mesh beautifully, lots of humor, pranks, fantastic driving venues, excellent cars, and lots of ragging on stuff most of us hate. My wife and I love the BBC TG, and after 15 mins of the American's we were both bored to tears. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I will check back in at the end of the series to see if the boys are doing any better.

The chemistry should get better among the hosts. The first episode of any TV show is usually a little awkward to watch while the actors still develop a relationship. The filming really didn't impress me, especially the part with the viper and helicopter, I've seen 3rd year undergrad film students do better stuff without trying. The interview could have been awesome, but it sucked. The way they introduced the stig was awkward at best, and we all know its a machine, not a 'he'. The 'warehouse' set is contrived and a poor imitation of the original. Needless to say it has huge potential to be the best thing on American television, but it probably will never measure up to the BBC version.

I remember us reviewing the trailer here on PPOT and many said (paraphrasing) "ah, that's just a trailer, wait until the show comes out, we are sure it is different".

Not so. Those guys are just a set of wannabe idiots. Completely unbearable to watch. Much like the rest of TV. Thanks - I will watch the brits on Netflix and entertain myself with you fools on the interwebs.

I'd read bot so long ago that Top Gear was one of the most watched shows in the world, period. And was the #1 highest rated show being downloaded off the net....
