Yikes!

At least that one looks mean. Mine just looked kinda goofy. :)

Re: the roll bar and the warranty. So, we're not allowed to amp up the safety factor in our sports cars for the sake of safety itself? I think the service manager was jumping at conclusions.

Now, if he were to bend down and pull hot rubber chunks off the inside of the wheel wells, then I think he did his job. The roll bar thing is like finding a pair of driving gloves in the console and blaming the driver for racing.

That's one feature I hated on my '99. Had to remember to turn it off every time you started the car. Looked into getting it disabled - no luck.

Pulled into fast traffic from a stop once, with plenty of room if I got on it a bit. Got into the lane, just began accelerating and it cut in, suddenly no power at all, like the engine had stalled. Only momentarily, but made me feel real uneasy catching a glimpse of the car behind me closing fast until it lit off again. Seems to me I read that they desensitized that feature a bit in later years.

And, of course, it wouldn't allow ya to show off by roasting the tires. :)

I never understood all the pissin' and moanin' over the skip-shift feature. It only functioned below a pretty low rpm, quite a bit lower than what I shifted at even during my most relaxed driving. I don't think I even ever experienced it other than when I first bought the car and consciously tried to get it to work. After that, I totally forgot about it. I think that that feature could be and was disabled by some owners.

Hi Mike good to hear from you.
Surprised you don't hold a little hate for Vettes after Rupart rammed your 911 at Big Willow years ago.
This year Vette had a recall for a problem with piston rings.
A few years ago this car too was burning some oil so the owner took it to the dealer.
The dealer said no problem we'll replace it with a new engine.
The service writer walked out to the car saw a roll bar and told the owner, no dice.
Track work voids your engine warranty.
So the owner did what any good car guy would do and spent 10k on a performance rebuild. :)
Hope to catch up with you on a fun day at the track in 2011.
Did you end up building a Factory 5 car, still on the bike at work?
Stay safe, Happy Holidays! :)

Hey Mike,

Good to hear from ya. Was just talking about you with my dad the other day. He had the issue of Excellance sitting on the coffee table with your car in it. Looks like retirement is suiting you well :)

Yes I ended up building the FF5 car. Took it to the track and it was a blast. Then I started getting into the bikes more and never raced it. Just finishing up a dedicated track bike now to go along with my 5 other street bikes and I'm still on the bike at work. I'm selling the FF5. Still have the 911, but have been thinking about selling it too, just to get rid of some stuff. If I keep the 911(probably will) would love to catch up sometime at a event.

PS. I do still get the shakes alittle everytime I see a White Corvette. But I should be ok around yours.

If you ever buy a sports car for its carbon dioxide production, you deserve to be slapped.

That link outlines exactly what is wrong with the sheeple mentality of the greenies in the US. It SIMPLY takes fuel economy numbers and calculates how much CO2 must be produced making many assumptions along the way. Horrible science. But some pious Pruis owner will LOVE telling their relatives at the Holiday dinner table how their Yukon is killing all the fish in the sea.

I owned a C5Z06 for many years. It was a great car, but I soon tired of it after the suspension started wearing out. The oil temperature gauge (yes, they have an oil temp gauge) started showing higher temps, and the oil pressure started to show lower readings at track speeds.

Just don't buy one that has been abused. :D

Byron,

That teener doesn't have a soul. It eats them!

What is he running for a transaxle?

It's probably the standard M12 6-speed manual transmission with a 3:42 rear gear.

The dash has a TRANS OVER TEMP warning when the car transaxle goes above the factory recommended temperatures on the track.

kaisen 11-30-2010 01:54 PM

I'm pretty sure she meant the 914/8

Those v8 conversions usually run a 930 four speed transaxle

OK.

But why post that in a Corvette thread?

Why do a 8-cyl 914 when a 2.5L twin-plug 914 can not be beat on the race track? :D

Why do a V-8 when you can put a V-10 from a Carrera GT in the car?
:D

Thanks got it.
Bob the seller and I found we have a couple of long time mutual friends so the sale was as smooth as could be.
In fact a friend referred me to Bob a couple months ago just because I was concerned I might be too tall for a C5.
Bob is 7 foot tall and we talked about his Vette experience.
Then he offered he was thinking about selling his as he has a NASCAR, a vintage Cobra and a couple Thunder roadsters.
Yesterday he drove from Salt Lake City to San Diego with the Vette on a trailer, it passed the PPI.
165 compression within 5% on a cold engine.
Bob upgraded anything he thought would fail or had failed at the track.
The deal included a new set of Kumho 710s and 2 spare front rims and 4 spare rear rims with used 710s, tire management made easy. :)
I offered to help pay for his 18 hour round trip to deliver the car but he refused.
Bob's a member at the Spring Mtn track club near Vegas, a super cool dude.
He likes to join the Porsche clubs when they rent the track, he knows that track well.
So this morning after a quick clay bar and wax I'm looking forward to some seat time.

Thanks again for all the comments, I’ve enjoyed reading all of them. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/beerchug.gif

911 and the Vette seemed to get along fine first night alone. ;)

If you see Tall Bob at the track give him a point bye for me.

And 911 is now relegated to the back of the garage, eh? :(

Must've taken' some kind o' jockey'n to get her sideways like that.

Or is that one o' them there rare, really narrow body Carreras, and ya drove it in through that door on the right? :D

I rolled the 911 back to get them in the same photo.
That's just the right half side of the garage, silly. :)
You are the first mistaken my 911 as a narrow body. ;)
