What's the catch with this scam?

Hadn't seen this one before, but it landed in my email a few minutes ago. I could use the extra income if this is a part time thing.

Dear Sir/Madam,

We have discovered your biographical data at the job website, examined your curriculum vitae and found that you are an ideal contender for the appointment we propose.

We're at present seeking for a couple of skilled persons for a vacant job position of account coordinator.

The major task of such job title is collecting payments and bank remittances from our customers in the USA. If you do not have a running account, our manager will help you to open it.

The typical salary for the job title of the account coordinator is $600-$800 per week.

Basic Requirements:

- Work at home
- PC skills: Microsoft Word, personal e-mail address
- Age: 21+
- Responsibility
- US Citizenship

NO ADMISSION FOR THIS POSITION

If you are interested in the vacancy, please reply to this email with your resume attached.

Best regards,
Sigourney Warner .

Its been around a long time. You receive checks for them and deposit it into your account. Then you are supposed to send them a check for the amount deposited minus your fee. Later you find out the original check was bogus and you're left on the hook since you're already sent them the money.

How long does it take to figure out their checks are bogus? Seems it'd be less than one month.

Actually there is a new version on this. Just came out on the news here locally that the company on the internet was taking money from another persons account illegally, sending it to you (washing it) then you forward it, usually to a foreign Western Union account.

After several weeks its busted and you are left owing $20-30k to the person whose account was hacked. The people overseas have their cash and you are left hanging.

I'm too lazy to bother setting up another bank account to play with them. But what could be the harm in depositing their checks and just not sending money back to them before I have a ruling on whether those checks clear. Surely, they throw a few legit. checks in to make it look on the up and up.

Who falls for this stuff?
For all the scams they send out, someone has to be biting.
I've always wondered if being stoopid makes people greedy or being greedy makes people stoopid but it has to be one or the other.

They have nothing better to do than send out thousands of those a day. Idle hands and all that . . . it's a shame folks from Nigeria and related countries don't actually put their minds to creative endeavors that don't include spamming.

Read Joe's post. The checks might be money they are stealing by a Nigerian scam. (You are now the "agent" for a deposed Nigerian prince.) Or they simply hacked someone's account and you are the mule. Either way, law enforcement traces the money to you.

The problem with trying the scam the scammers, is you have morals and they have none.

You will lose.
