Theory - If you own a sports car, do you also have...

ADHD? This sort of came to me this week. I drive an SC. Not comfortable. Not quiet. Lousy mileage. But, very rewarding in sensory stimulating ways. I get out of the car with a smile every day. All of those many inputs work very well with me. So I have never been diagnosed with ADHD but I bet if I were a kid today I would be. It was mentioned in a medical context when I was a child. Not exactly sure how that conversation went. Regardless, my 10 yr old daughter does have ADHD (adopted - I didn't give it to her!) and one of the things that is known about ADHD folks is that they like stimulation. Loud music. Cigarettes. Driving fast. You name it. This idea crossed my mind that I like loud music, driving fast, loud cars, etc. Am I on to something? Thanks, Larry | ||

Are you suggesting that there is a connection between my love for Black Flag and fighting, and my love for going 150 in my 997?

I'm not sure about other sports cars, but If you own a 911, you usually own (or have owned) a Ducati, a Valentine One, a four-cylinder Toyota pickup, and at least one gun. Oh, and you're always right. And you've been divorced at least once, and you could bang supermodels, but you just don't want to, because it's a hassle.

Most of us have ADHD in the fact that we would change cars every 5minutes if we could. I know I change what I want to hunt down for a DD at least once a week....

I think my doctor may have told me I had ADHD, but I wasn't really paying attention.

I think OCD may be a common affliction as well. The need to continuously tune or clean to the point of obsession?

No ADHD here. No OCD. No to all of Gogar's list - except the divorce part & she was just a ****. I am a B+ personality & very calm & collected in times of crisis. I guess I bought the wrong car. Ian

I have it (ADD; no hyperactivity, diagnosed in '89) and have the 5 licensed vehicles, 3 rifles, 2 pistols, one shotgun, a motorcycle and an electric guitar to prove it.

My son has been diagnosed with ADHD as well as Aspberger's. He's not old enough to drive/smoke/chase girls so we're not sure how this will change later in life. I would agree that some us probably would be diagnosed now given what we know and based on our activities me?-divorced, drives a sweet 911 , pretended to be a rock star in the 80's, used to smoke cigs.

Valentine One? Nope, Radar detectors are illegal in Ontario. Four-cylinder Toyota pick-up? Nope, six cylinder Jeep. Guns? Nope, don't need or desire one. Divorced? Nope, still have my original wife. I am always right, however!

I'd hate to think what they would diagnose the 5th grade version of herr_oberst in the year 2010, instead of the diagnosis that was given in 1970.

Well, I definately like stimulation. Still smoke ( hoping to quit soon) at one time did my fair share of drugs and booze ( no more) . Started with BMX bikes, onto motor cycles then to sports cars, mountain biking, sky diving, surfing, auto x, track days, always loved to chase pretty girls, but will admit that after I got a little bit older, the work was not worth the reward. Played guitar all through my youth up untill my mid 30's. Nothing better than cranking your favorite soundtrack while doing some wrenching on the hot rod. I imagine at some point they will diagnose my 5 year old boy with a mild form of ADHD, and he is a spitting image of his pop. I have owned a sport bike, guns and radar detectors, have never had a toyota pu, but have had a bunch of work trucks/ vans/Jeeps in the past. Never have been married , but have managed to stay with the same girl for 16 years . I am sure I would have been diagnosed with a mild form of adhd. If I am interested in something, I jump in with both feet, and usually go over board, but it is real hard for me to keep focused on a task that I have no passion for. Maybe you are onto something here
