This was the 1st time I had ever taken a 1911 completely apart and I'm more impressed with John Moses Browning than ever after seeing this mechanism. The frame, slide and small parts will be sandblasted, then Parkerized and I'll install new springs and apply Rig grease when I reassemble it. I'm very anxious to see how this turns out!

Yeah, yeah... More pice as soon as the sandblasting is done. I'm prepping next weekend for the Parkerizing the weekend after and then reassembly on Easter weekend!

Paul,
Nice pistol. And the background looks like the cavalry twill from the old "pinks and greens". Is it?

One of the most comfortable, accurate and fun pistols I've ever had the pleasure of shooting was a .40S&W Browning Hi Power. It's on the list of guns that I want to own some day...

No, Sir, it is not...but I do know of what you speak. My Grandfather, before he became enlightened and learned to fly, was cavalry. He actually taught riding before taking to the air.
Edit: The Hi-Powers, like yours, will always be special to me.

I just dropped off the Remington Rand M1911A1 at the gunsmith's shop in Mason, MI. I was impressed that they didn't try to talk me into Duracoating the gun or anything like that as soon as they realized what it is. I told them I really want to Parkerize it with Manganese Phosphate to get that dark gray finish that it had originally and they understood completely.
One of the guys at the shop makes walrus tusk ivory grips and they showed me a set on an old Colt and it looked great! Maybe I'll talk Beth into getting me those for Christmas!! Hopefully, I'll get the gun back from the shop, sandblasted and ready to be Parkerized. I'm order the chemicals this week and I'll get everything ready...

Yep, the Hi-Powers I saw at the gun shop yesterday ranged from $950 to $1200. But then again, you always have to pay more for quality... If I wanted "cheap", I could buy a Hi Point!
