Iphone4 available on verizon wireless

Verizon Wireless and Apple today announced that the iPhone 4 will be available on the Verizon Wireless network beginning on Thursday, February 10. Qualified Verizon Wireless customers will be given the exclusive opportunity to pre-order iPhone 4 online on February 3, ahead of general availability.

Verizon is going to fall on their face with this one I suspect.

While I don't doubt these will be popular and sell well, I also seriously doubt they're ready for the enormous load that's going to be placed on their network. It'll be interesting and I suspect the quality of (phone, not customer) service will be superior to AT&T, I bet they're in for a few rude surprises...

Google is the big loser here.

I think Verizon supports enough Smartphone (Droid and Blackberry) users to have a gauge on bandwidth usage. I have a Verizon Samsung Fascinate (which couldn't be a more blatant iPhone copycat) and love it so much I don't 'want' for the iPhone. I, for one, LOVE Verizon's service and customer service. I've been a customer for more than a decade.

The whole not being able to talk on the phone while browsing seems like a deal killer.

I can imagine someone trying to pull up Google Maps on the iPhone while trying to talk to someone, oops, can't on Verizon.

yea, they were predicting 20 million, wonder if that was the reason. Wonder why you can't on Verizon?

I most definitely can talk on the phone (including via a Bluetooth headset) while web browsing and looking at a GPS map. Simultaneously. I've done it. FWIW I have the AT&T iPhone 4 - don't know if that makes a difference, but it most certainly CAN be done.

Crickets. . . The Verizon iPhone is reported to be the exact same one as AT&T's except that it is CDMA, not GSM. In other words is does not support Verizon's new 4G (LTE) data, does not have a dual core processor or GPU like 4 or 5 Verizon phones introduced at CES last week, nor does it have any of the new display technology shown at CES. Oh, and still no custom home screens.

And I can't wait for those guys that jump from AT&T to Verizon to get their first taste of Verizon's "customer service." With my last experience they made AT&T look like Nordstoms'. But I do appreciate them getting off my network. That means more bandwidth for me!

. . . more crickets.

Verizon knows what its doing? They farmed out almost all the work to Ericsson. Thats right EX-Sprinters building out Verizon. I am sure it will work like a wonderful piece of ****.

The verizon version will not do data and voice at the same time (AT&T does). The verizon phone will work as a hotspot out of the box (AT&T doesn't). The next iPhone will certainly support lte. Will be interesting to see what happens with android sales due to this. I'll stay with AT&T for now - as far as I can tell CS sucks hard with most carriers, and the devil I know has been pretty well behaved lately.

I can do this on T-Mobile, with an HD2. In fact, I can take phone calls while I'm "tethering" my laptop to the internet through my phone. The internet connection works with no slowdown with the phone call in operation.

Who said anything about driving?

What if you are on the phone with someone and you want to check movie listings or find a restaurant on UrbanSpoon or something? Can't do it with Verizon.

The HD2 is a great phone and WM6.5 is a surprisingly decent OS, depending on your needs. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't be in a hurry to "upgrade" to anything from CES 2011 unless there was a specific need.

All this is the reason that I was able to get a Droid Incredible for "FREE" (between free-every-2 upgrade discount, rebate & service credit).

So who wants to tell me how crappy my Droid Incredible will be? Regardless, it has to beat my LG EnV3(I HOPE?).

+1. Current ATT Captivate user that came over from iPhone 3GS. I still maintain that the iPhone does things a little cleaner that Android - especially if it's a Samsung/ATT offering. Wondering if current Android users will regret moving to the less customizable iPhone?

I do really like my HD2 and the HD7 was a downgrade! I do hate the on screen keyboard. My next smartphone will have a physical keyboard. The Dell offering looks like it is the closest to what I need.

It's funny, I use my old Treo Pro everytime I go to Mexico. I find that the screen size isn't that important. I need 3G and I really prefer the physical keyboard to the "pecking" on the screen unit. I've tried swype, but it isn't for me.

For any "serious" typing on the HD2, I bought a $10 bluetooth keyboard.
