Another "Doc Advice" thread...

As I know there are a few on here... I thought I would seek professional advise or knowledge from those who have been there, done that. I don't have medical insurance so I pay for services as they are rendered...

My right wrist has been giving me trouble the last 3 days (today included). I have full range of motion, but rotating it in certain directions causes a twinge of pain. It feels like pins/needles and partial numbness all through my wrist and the edge of my hand.

I haven't had this type of sensation before, so I'm not sure if it's serious or not. Also, I did break this wrist about 6 years ago. Haven't had any issues like this since.

Should I go see a doc?

Where's the pain? Where's the numbness? I mean, specifically what parts of the hand? How often do you have the pain/numbness? At night? Activities?

I'm in the office tomorrow if you want to drive up to Encino.

The pain is consistently on/in my wrist. The numbness is all through my wrist and hand, comes and goes randomlu. It is not triggered (as far as i know) by any specific activity but has been present all day/night/hours since sunday.

I'm at a medical office right now, waiting to see a doc. This office is affordable and great service, but takes ****** forever for a doc to see you.

Any ideas what it may be or how to "fix it"? I'm placing a hopeful bet on cybernetic arm, but have a feeling I'm going to be dissappointed.

Cybernetic arms are pretty expensive, even when on sale.

Always hard to give an internet diagnosis, but you may have carpal tunnel syndrome. If the doc you're seeing agrees, try wearing a semi-firm wrist splint (like the ones supermarket checkers wear) at night when you sleep. It's not necessary to wear it super-tight. You just don't want to be sleeping with your wrist bent all night long. It's to keep the wrist straight and prevent the nerve from being kinked off for hours on end.

Oral anti-inflammatories (Naprosyn, Advil, Aleve, Ibuprofen, etc) may help.

Stretching exercises for the wrists.

I know this probably goes against all medical advice, but I use weights when something like that is bugging me. Light weights.
I had a similar problem in my right wrist. Lots of tingling and restriction of movement. I would get a sharp pain at certain angles.

I did forearm curls with 20/25 pounds and it made it better. I would rest my forearms on the edge of a piece of wood and slowly release the weight all the way down to as far as I could extend my fingertips. Then pull them back up.
It felt real good and then one night I heard a pop. I thought 'oh ****' I've done it now. Actually it got better after the pop.

I kind of have the same thing going on in my left shoulder right now. Been dealing with constant pain every time I lift my arm overhead for months. Just started using the light weights and doing shoulder exercises.
It's gone now. Even have strength back.

You have to move real slow with the weights though. Kind of like Yoga or stretching.
No sudden movements. You want to stretch more than pump.
I think of it as a resistance exercise, like Pilates. You'll feel it and the stretching is good for you.
Call it Yoga with weights.
I don't know, worked for me.

I always go to the point of pain and then a little further. Hold it for about 15/20 seconds and go back. Then keep doing it.
Eventually the pain is gone. Hopefully.

Yay... I've got tendinitis :\ . I'm too young for this crap... Doc gave me a splint and ibuprofin 3x a day. Checkup with an ortho in a week, if it's better no worries use the splint as necessary. If not better, x-rays and possible treatment with cortisone and more robust Rx...

$100 out the door for it all. Best healthcare you can afford.

Thank you all for the input. Once I'm a bit closer to 100% I'll try doing some exercises and maybe a few weights as dipso suggests.

put you hand flat palm side down on a desk - usea sharpie to color in the areas that have pain

repeat palm up

now do it from the side

take pics & post for Noah, et al.

but ... you need to go let an MD examine you up close & personal

got health ins.?

As requested... Image attached.

RED Area Is where I feel the pain.
BLUE Area is where the numbness/tingling comes and goes.

Randy, I saw a doc earlier (see post above about tendinitis). And I have decent insurance: Cash Money.

Tobra, I will ice it as you say. Also, I don't think I'll switch hands. If the numbness gets worse, I may consistently be able to pull off "The Stranger"
