How many pelicans does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
answer: 1
I just finished installing the last of 47 can lights in my basement remodel project that seems to never end. Still have to lay the floor, trim out the doors, install wood base, finish the bath, build the bar, install lots of cabinets and put on the finish coat of paint. I'm exhausted and still have a couple of months to go. Tip of the day. Had trouble getting the builders grade flood light bulbs to screw in easy and straight. Went out to the garage and grabbed some anti-seize compound. Put a little dab on the threads and they all went in smooth as silk. I'm sure dieletric grease would have worked as well but the anti-seize was the first thing I found. Happy remodeling to all!!

Pelicans do not screw in light bulbs.
The proper bulb is a bayonet base which can be sourced from our host. ![]() Bet you're glad that job is over! Les

Great thinking there.
I intend to finish the last of the painting on our kitchen remodel tomorrow. Only thing left is deciding on what kind of flooring we want and to install it. Should be no problem... hehe

I like putting anti-sieze on all the out door lights where there is a possibility for corrosion.

47 can lights in your basement remodel? How big is your basement (or growhouse)?

Only 1200 feet. I like lights. I finished every inch I could find. No space is wasted.
30 5" cans. 17 3" accent spots. 2 wall sconces. Light/heater/fan combo. Strip florescent in a light cove. 3 pendants. Still need to get the in and under cabinet lights.

Nice. Always easier to install them with everything opened up and basements without enough or the right lighting always feel a little claustrophobic. I kid because my project this weekend is to hang 6 new florescent fixtures in my garage. I'm tired of having to drag my spotlights around when I'm trying to work in there.

Geez, that's a lot of light for 1200 SF. I use a kitchen rubber grip pad, like for opening bottles, to get bulbs in or out of can light's.

That was my thought. Good God - what is your electric bill like?

Electric bill has definitely gone up since all lights are on all day with lots of battery chargers plugged in, shop vac and saws running, etc.
Surprisingly not a ton of light. Finished ceiling height is about 7'6" and I used recessed trim kits which put off a spot effect more than a flood. Given a lower ceiling height, if you use flush mount trims the lights tend to shine in your eyes when standing. The lighting turned out very pleasant and comfortable. Everything is zoned with no more than 4 fixtures per switch. This in combination with many dimmers should allow me to keep energy consumption in check. Now the entertainment area with 65" plasma and power hungry Adcom amps will definitely spin the meter. |

I very often put a quick coat of Dow Corning 111 on light bulb threads. Works GREAT.

Pelican parts is based in California and we all know that Californians don't screw in light bulbs, they screw in hot tubs.
