Do people not take care of software discs?
We picked up a router today that came with a copy of Engravelab. This is not a cheap software and both discs are all fingerprinted up and scratched! My laptop won't read either of them!
The eventual plan is to run Omega with this router, but we were going to at least use the engrave lab to play.... |

Software that you are still using that cost a considerable sum of money?

No silly. I make a copy first, then use that as a coaster.

It just stuns me that someone probably paid close to a grand for this and neither of the discs will read....

No, discs get treated like crap. They're throwaway commodities now. I have very few things on disc anyway - it's all available on servers, online or on a mirror drive just in case. Physical media is a PITA, takes up space and is the new version of "office clutter" and it tends to get treated as such.

Why not just buy a coaster? Or use the blank disc as one to save yourself the time of making a copy? Or use all those autoX awards you've been winning?

My favorite coaster is one from a Brauhaus in Germany.

I still have some arty Toulousse-Lautrec and Monet ones my mother got for me years ago. Anna carts them all over the house and hides them for fun. Or I use another set I got as a Christmas gift from a junior resident during residency.
Just wanted to share. You know, as long as we've turned this thread into one about coasters.

I download most of my software, install it and then store it on my server. I rarely use disks any more.

Same here. I pick them up from around the world and have a stash around the house to use.
