Solar panels,
Been reading some details on applying solar panels to roof of some stables we have in an isolated field outside town. Amongst the blurb it mentions running LED's (fair enough campers do this all the time) it then goes a bit of plan with..... "... the introduction of LED lighting we can light your stables very brightly with very little power. Indoor lights and outdoor flood lights " The next bit surprises me and I thought I'd run it by the Pelican massive "we can even make it possible to use household power devices. So you can boil a kettle or use clippers, or any other 240v device. do these sound likely to you, ![]() my inverter will do a laptop whats your heaviest drain on an inverter |

different scale of inverter than you are thinking of. if i am not mistaken, a solar panel puts out its electricity at around 500VDC. the inverter mentioned seems to step the voltage down to 240VAC. hard to tell without the specs.

I'm familiar with inverters which will change 12volts DC to 120 volts AC. These are available at different power levels depending on your requirement. I suspect manufacturers are capable of inverting 500 VDC to 120 VAC if presented with the need.
Here's a site with inverters which will allow you to run much more than a laptop; so yes you can run a kettle or toaster and more. Power Inverter | Pure Sine Wave Inverters | Marine Inverter

I build and sell Solar Power Energy systems for offshore. The last 2 control panels I shipped had 2000 Watt inverters. You can certainly boil water with that one!
If you are interested in an Off Grid solar system, send me a PM or e-mail. I'll point you in the right direction. LEDs are the way to go. A lot of the LED lighting systems are DC only, and of course, are most efficent that way. They use about 1/15th-1/20th the amount of energy used by incandescant lighting. The real issue is how much power do you need, and how much storage do you need?
