Scary Weather

The drive from the office took 45 minutes this afternoon. It's 4 miles. The roads were more treacherous than I've ever seen.
Ice has been coming down for 12 hours and now the wind is picking up. The pops and crashes of the tree limbs breaking and trees falling are like distant fireworks. The lights are flickering and the house is groaning. I'm worried about the weight of the ice on the roof. I can't see out of any of my windows because of the ice. I've never experienced anything like this.

Get up there with a sledge hammer and give it a few good whacks.

On second thought...no don't do that. Ice sure is heavy.

Hang in there. I hope everything/everyone stays safe.

We are bracing for blizzard conditions overnight. It should be a real joy getting to work in the morning.

Hang on for the ride, this is why you have insurance. We're waiting for it to hit in upstate NY. Won't be pretty here either.

Good luck.

Heading our way as well - but the snow version. The snowblower is ready.

This stuff sucks, and I'm not looking forward to tomorrow AM. This is the first time I've ever seen The Weather Channel put out an "ice storm" warning for our area. God, I would trade this for a blizzard warning in a second.

It's currently 23 degrees outside, and they're calling for rain for about 12 hrs straight, yielding about 1/2 to 3/4" ice buildup. We're in a rural area with lots 'o trees, so goodbye power, heat, and water (well). Yeee Haww!, just like indoor camping. We've also got some very large old trees around our house and barn (with Porsches inside), and I've never seen them with that much ice in the 30 years I've lived here.

Oh well, keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best. Actually, I pray that The Weather Channel is as accurate as they usually are.

They keep quacking about the sky falling here but it's been a non event. Reminds me of when I lived in Floriduh and they would be standing in the Gulf Of Mexico ankle deep in the water telling us the world was coming to an end. I think the grocery stores pay them off so they can sell more bread peanut butter and toilet paper. We will see in the morning. I'm in the NW corner of PA near the ohio border. They say it's coming but they said that last night too. This morning there wasn't enough to waste the diesel fuel to fire up the tractor.

The snow just stopped here, only 7" but bitter cold and lots of wind. Work released everyone early because the drifts were trapping people in the parking lot, so there is a silver lining.

We're solidly in the snow band, and it's bad out there. We got 2" last night, and another 12" today. Snow isn't supposed to stop until around noon tomorrow.

IDOT and the City of Bloomington have given up on plowing the roads and interstates. There's no point. Anything that is plowed will just be blown back in ten minutes. Sustained winds in the 40 mph range with gusts up to 55 mph.

My boss sent us home today at 11:00 a.m. My boss follows the rules and never sends people home early for weather. Official announcement of the office closing came an hour later. There's no way it will reopen tomorrow. It may take the city two more days to clear the roads.

My street is 1/4 mile long and we live in the middle. I can't see either end.

Yikes.

I don't get why people stay in such a place. Same country, currency, languate etc. - just move south ...

The only reason people ended up living in cold climates was because the balmy spots were already taken by other tribes. Go north or get hit over the head. Nowadays that doesn't apply any more ...

This bites. It's as bad as they predicted here.

I was up at 4:30am clearing the driveway as we were planning on working. My street is not plowed but I hear the trucks. I won't even try to make it until they make at least one pass.

The weekend is supposed to be nice.

Sometimes, going to work is just not worth the risk. That is why they have sick days, vacation days, or telecommuting. Also, that is why I am trying to move to New Mexico.

Pretty good amount of snow here. 4wd was a must to get out of the subdivision. They rarely plow our street so I don't expect it done anytime today. I'll snowblow the sidewalk/driveway afterwork, yippie...

I'm in Milwaukee on business. Supposed to fly out today. That ain't happening. Our plant was closed 3rd shift last night and 1st shift, (at least), today. I have a 6' snow drift outside my hotel room.

Oh, and when I do get out of it I can experience it all again when I get home. Of course who knows when that will be.
