Those are serious little cars, went on a very spirited two day tour with a group of P-cars and a friend of one of the participants came in one of those....sure impressed me.

Wish I had kept it. Bought it new in Chicago in 1986. Sold it in Georgia in 1994 with just shy of 100K miles on it. Inquired about it recently and found out that it was totaled in Detroit in 2004. Made many long trips with wife and two kids. King of the highway. Sorry for the shi**y pic. It's a scan of a photo (pre-digital)

Those R5s pop up from time to time, it would be amazing to own one, but I would hate the day that I would need to repair one.... parts may be difficult to find.

I blame 007 for my love of the R5, Never Say Never Again featured one in a chase scene:

my daily driver hot hatchback

I always loved the R5s myself as well. Here is my daily driver A3, just about to hit 35K. Front wheel drive rocket with a 6 speed and APR Stage 1 flash. Winter power coated 17" Avus wheels with Blizzaks. Just point it and make sure the wheels are straight before mashing the go pedal. Awfully hard on the front tires

I remember when Mopar Performance was selling their "Super 60" kit to bring the Turbo II engines up to 300hp. Amazing for a SOHC 2.2L! I was driving a 1987 Shelby Charger Turbo at the time (Turbo I engine) and was tempted but never pulled the trigger.

The Omni was just so much more of a sleeper with that kit.
