Shutterfly, Photobucket Confusion

Uploading photos to Pelican is a cinch. Uploading to my blog is easy.

Uploading pix to the Volvo board and many spoon boards requires photo sharing.
I would like to use a photo/video sharing site but I am concerned that if I sign up, all my photos will suddenly appear on a website for all to see, etc. Can you tell me, please, how these sites work i.e., can I pick and choose which of my 10,000+ photos will appear on the storage site? Any caveats?

Thanks!

Tom

I use Google Picasa and I really like it. It does a great job of cataloging my photos in one view no mater where they are on disk. When I want share them I pick the ones I want to upload and it gives me a link to share.

Oh, and it's free.

You would arrange your uploaded photos into "albums" which can be made public or private. If you have a gmail account already, use picasa for simplicity's sake. If you have a yahoo account, use flickr. Hotmail -> windows live.

You have to upload the photos first before you can share them... so there's no need to upload ALL of the photos you've taken.

Thanks 71T and Graham,

It turns out that i do have a picasa album from PC days that I used with my blog. It also works well with my new Mac (one year old). Privacy was my concern and I see that that is taken care of.

Picassa and photobucket both work nicely... As others have said, you only upload the files that you want to share...

I use flickr and have several thousand photos stored. All the online photo storage sites are pretty much the same with the same functions.

Yep, I think Google shut it down and now has 'most' of what Picasa had in Google photos. Still can't link Google pictures directly to the forums though.

Not sure what happened to all of the picts that used to be in Picasa. Luckily for me I had mine on a NAS drive.
