Not you too...

The only consolation, if they make it all the way (nothing since 1972), is that we were defeat by the Stanley Cup winner.

Joe no matter how much it pains me a deal is a deal and I have made the appropriate adjustments to my avatar. I figured since my team took such a beating I should go all the way with the broom. If you prefer something different let me know.

flatbutt 05-07-2011 06:22 AM

good on you trader! congrats Por-sha!

For awhile there I though The Bob was going to come through....but then the dam burst.

So I am willing to make the same offer to you. It should be an nice and easily identifiable logo. Since we are in round two, let's also add that the loser should have something appropriate under the name like "The Bruins Rule". Deal?

Trader: you do whatever you think is right based on the original deal.

Gee its awfully quiet in this thread lately.
Anyone think that the Wings or Preds have a chance?

OK...

Joe, which team you would like to play in the next round and the Stanley Cup Final?

And why?

Por_sha911 05-08-2011 01:44 PM

First off, I'm not so confident that the B's will be playing for the cup. I have a feeling that the Bruins are going to have some problems beating Tampa Bay. The Bolts are looking strong (Stamkos, LeCavalier, St Louis) and Bergeron is out with a "mild concussion". He was their best scorer and a top notch center.
I like both the Preds and Wings more than the Canucks or the Sharks but I don't see either one overcoming the odds. Luongo is the Canucks greatest asset or biggest liability depending on how he's playing and the so I have a feeling that the Sharks will be on the western side of the ice.
Comments?

Hey Joe

You may be right re: the Canucks. They've had the territorial advantage in play but don't seem to be getting the bounces. The Preds appear to be getting more than their fair share of puck-luck. Having said that, Rinne is outplaying Luongo. As far as Detroit goes; they're not the 'Dead Things' yet. They've played remarkably well given all their injuries. Tonight I shall be glued to the tube - beer in hand & waving a white towel (you may already know the story of the towel & of a Canuck run & the late Roger Neilson & it all becoming a symbol of sorts of "Canuck Nation") - & we'll get back to you tomorrow....

Go Canucks & Go Red Wings & for good measure Go Broons
Cheers
JB

flatbutt 05-09-2011 12:52 PM

The West is tough to call especially given the Red Wings performance last night. And the East...whew...both finalists had a 7 game first round and a sweep in the second round.

Por-sha your original statement stands, IMO, that whichever goalie holds his serve is going to the final.

Por_sha911 05-09-2011 12:55 PM

Roger: I perceive that thou art a Canuck. I am curious as to what appears to be Latin in your posts:
"A fronte praecipitium a tergo lupi" : A forehead headlong fall in the rear lupi???
"Ubi bene ibi patria" : has something to do with a good home?

Bonne chance and illegitimi non carborundum (which is Latin for "keep your head up and watch out for the power forwards when you are against the boards") :D

Canucks vs 'Da Broons' ......Canucks in 6 - Robson & Granville Streets will never be the same!
Hi Joe

I made that rather brash statement back in Oct. at the start of the season on the Canadian Regional Forum. You're right, I'm & have been a die-hard Canuck fan for many years & they've broken my heart soooo many times.
"Ubi bene ibi patria": is/was a patriotic Roman sentiment - "I owe my allegiance to the country in which I prosper

I must confess I got quite a chuckle out of that one - good stuff!!
"A fronte praecipitium a tergo lupi": literally translates as: "A precipice in front, wolves behind" - "Between a rock & a hard place" or as our fathers probably said, "Between the devil & the deep blue sea"

FYI, there used to be a fraternity, the I.O.O.B. - "International Order of Old Bastards" (they sponsored & held some pretty decent charity events) & their motto was : "Illegitimus non-fractus carborundum" - Don't let the old bastards wear you down. Obviously a 'cobbled-up job' for their motto, but they were a great group of stand-up guys. I will take your advice to heart though, especially near the boards. FWIW, I'm not Roger although my youngest brother is named Roger so I'll take it as a compliment after all, one of his cars is a 993 twin-turbo (last of the air-cooled Porsches - I believe) that I lust for. Enjoy the game tonight.

Cheers
JB

Another trip to the Conference Finals

Well... If history repeat itself, the Canucks should win the Stanley Cup.

Every city in Canada that hosted the Olympics saw their hockey team win the Stanley Cup.

Montreal: 1976 Summer Olympic, the Habs won the Stanley Cup (1976-1977 season).

Calgary: 1988 Winter Olympic, the Flame won the Stanley Cup (1988-1989 season)

Vancouver: 2010 Winter Olympic, The Canuks won ???

Bonne Chance Canucks, don't break the streak ;)

JB: I guess you and Roger look alike to me? :) It looks like I was writing to you and thinking about Roger Neilson (thanks for the tip to look into his history-good stuff).
I.O.O.B.? I've been a Turtle and a member of the Flat Earth Society (I had a Meteorology major in college).
Here's a sign that goes along with that Latin expression:

As far as heartbreak goes, btdt. The B's have been masters at it over the years. Of course, last year was epic when they were up 3-0 games and then lost game 7 when they lead with 3-0 goals.

JJ: Et tu, Brute? I guess you have to pull for the next closest team in your country. I think that if the Bruins can beat Tampa Bay, they will carry the momentum and have a good chance a winning the cup. In essence, the Eastern finals is their defining moment.

In the meantime, it does my heart good to see all these wonderful avatars. :D

I say we all adopt an appropriate avatar when The Cup is finally won. Maybe for 30 days?

What a coincidence... On my way home a car ahead of me was sporting this plate:

Y BYSAIA. Obviously it flew over the head of the people reviewing the vanity plate :D

flatbutt 05-10-2011 06:27 PM

Happy to buy you guys a beverage anyway!

You seeing this Detroit / SJ game?

Por_sha911 05-11-2011 05:57 AM

That Wings/Sharks game was fantastic. The Wings came out with a mission. Niemi played with passion. Even the bad calls were kept to a tolerable minimum. With "the mule" out and Datsyuk playing with one hand I figured the Wings would collapse last night. Once again, I have been proven to be "often in error but never in doubt".
This year's playoffs (across the board) are some of the finest I've seen in a long time (or I just have a short memory and say that every year).
