yeah it does. Last night when he made one particular glove save through a crowd it reminded me of what my old coach said..."always have the trap open , facing forward about knee high. The puck will often fly right into it". That old guy knew net keeping.

Yet another reason that the suspension was justified. Otherwise, every team will have one or two goons (to use like a throw away pistol) to take out key players like Kesler, Sedin, St Louis, Stamkos, Ovechkin, Selani, Richards, Toews, SAVARD!...

I guess you could also say that suspensions should be consistent regardless of regular or post-season as well.
yup this should be an axiom. as should the nature of the play. but human nature is at play in sports as well and a greedy GM would gladly sacrifice a goon for a top line player. heck back in the day thats what goons were for. I don't miss them.

With all due respect turbo, first you said it wasn't a head hit. Then you said it wasn't charge and "he didn't leave his feet" (I assume you meant his feet didn't leave the ice). Now you are claiming bias due to stature. It seems to me that your bias is grasping at anything you can find to justify what the league has already ruled as a dirty hit. Let's just let it go like I had to do with Biter-boy (the Bruins would have won game 2 if he wasn't there...).
I'll try not to whine about game two or the fact that Horton's injury could ruin Boston's chance like it did when Savard was slaughtered on the ice.
I imagine that we both are passionate about the game, agree that the level of play has been great, it is what it is, and we are all looking forward to Wednesday night.
Look out for the bears

they look hungry!!!

I agree 100%. This suspension is probably going to be recognized as some sort of standard or benchmark decision representing the philosophy of the new group in charge of the disciplinary hearings board or committee. The degree or intent of last night's hit could be debated endlessly as we all have varying points of view. To me it should treated in the same spirit as "high-sticking"; you may not have intended to get your stick up - but if you did & contact was made - you're assessed a major, double-minor, or a minor, dependent on the on-ice officials ruling &/or if blood was drawn. Whatever the case, accidental or not, You are responsible for your stick & if it comes up high & makes contact, you get the gate - case closed. (blown or missed calls notwithstanding) & OBTW - I am in no way equating a 'high sticking' infraction to last night's incident.

Respectfully
JB

Well, I blew a perfectly good opportunity to agree with you.
I totally agree that there should be consistency on serious calls. I do appreciate that there is a little more leeway on minor calls during the playoffs so that the games are decided by the players and not the refs but there should still be consistency for all playoff games and all players.

Definitely an unfortuante hit last night - and no one wants to see anyone get hurt like that. Hope he is OK.

But, here's the real news. The Bruins are a great original 6 team, but they still don't stand a chance of winning the Cup.

If not for last night's ugly win by the Beantown Care Bears, we'd be looking at a 4 game Canucks sweep. Period.

Now, it's going to 6.

Go Nux Go!

PS: Damn - that Tim Thomas is good, though.

Rome stopped, bent at the knees and launched his shoulder to the head of Horton. Watch the replay. You see a shower of ice from his back skate, his knees dip, and he propels himself forward.

Not a problem if he is a) on time and b) hitting him shoulder to shoulder. He was late, and there was no attempt to just take his man out, just the opposite. No, he did not leave his feet as he was making contact, but he did so as part of the hit. Regardless, leaving your feet is not a penalty in the NHL, only in international hockey.

Comparisons to hits two years (or more) ago are pointless. The rules have changed.

Maybe a point to ponder.......

During the 1st intermission of last night's fiasco, 'Grapes' on the CBC network, brought up what sounds to me at least, to be an interesting idea. He proposed that in the event a player is taken completely out of the game or is unable to continue playing due to injury caused by some sort of major foul; the team losing said player should be allowed to dress an alternate. For Boston, Tyler Seguin could've be the 'designated replacement' or substitute player for the loss of Horton. It goes without saying, the sub would have to be a similar positional player. It would be interesting to see if all the 'powers that be' could agree & possibly come up with a fair & equitable solution to the fact the team which loses said player should not, in point of fact, be penalized by having a reduced bench for the rest of that game due to the injury. Just sayin'......

Cheers
JB

Beside T.C., none of the usual suspect seem to be online...

I'll stand by my prediction of whoever win tonight will be skating with the Stanley Cup.

Despite that Joe think that I'm bias toward the Canucks... I'm not.

Unlike a lot of people who become patriotic when some kind of championship is on the line... I wore the Canadian flag on my shoulder epaulette for 24 years and I don't need to shed a tear when they sign O'Canada in some arena to know were my loyalty lies.

Right now, I'm in a non loosing situation...

If L'ours win, I'll be able to say that my team got beaten by the Stanly Cup Winner and the Habs (the team with the most Stanley Cup) remains the last Canadian team to win a Stanley Cup (definitely a &%#@(*& Bettman plot

If the Canucks win... well I'm be glad that we defeated &%#@(*& Bettman plot

T minus 0H 16M 10S

P.S. Within a minute of the Stanley Cup win... Das Babe is back as my Avatar

Since I moved to LA from Toronto 26 years ago the order I now cheer for is
1-Leafs
2-Kings
3-Remain Canadian Team
4- Original 6

So I'm good either way

boy o boy does Vancouver have a B in their bonnet! Right now Boston OWNS Vancouver. But I must say Marchand continues to be on my top 10 list of douche bags. TT? Magnificent!!

JJ: you look good in black/gold. If it happens, why not wear the cup winning colors a little longer? Concerning your prediction: I'm in.

flatbutt: biased as I am, I have to ask, what didn't you like about Marchand tonight (other than the sick goal against Luongo and ducking to miss one of the Sedin sisters checks)?
Frankly I think that I have as much love for Lapierre as you do for Marchand.

Observations:
-Two more games like the last two and TT will own the Triple Crown: Lord Stanley's Cup, the Vesina, & the Conn Smythe.
-seems like Luongo is having a crisis of confidence
-the B's have a better PP % than the nucks 3/17 vs 1/22 in this series!
-all that Canuck skill is being overrun by good old fashioned Bruin determination
-TT let Biter-boy Burrows know what he thought about knocking his stick out of his hands

Rants:
-VC has done more diving than any other team in the playoffs

Porsha...Marchand is, IMO an ape, his behavior on ice is juenile at best and unprofessional at worst. His gifts as a player should make such antics unneccessary as those gifts would speak for him. But things like the brushing off of his hands while skating past the bench is sophomoric.

Like you I think LaPierre is a bigger douche because he doesn't have the skills of Marchand. And I just can't figure whats going on with the Sedins.

If Boston carries this wave into Vancouver they may win the cup at home. If Vancouver "holds their serve" then it's gonna be knock down drag out. But I'm thinking the B's have the edge. Schneider may have something to say about that though. We'll see if he starts tomorrow night.

I'm very, very impressed with TT. Lucic as well. Some great stuff out of him last night too.

I think that Fridays game will be more tightly controlled by the officials.
Boston played well.
The big horses for Van need to start pulling.
This is turning out to be a good series!
