Try not, Do or Do not

Left over from the day: A Nishiki Alan carbon /aluminum hybrid. This frame was built in the 80s in Italy for Nishiki and the carbon tubes were glue into aluminum lugs. The forks were aluminum. I first built this frame as a single speed weighting around ten pounds but it flexed so badly that I changed it to a road bike. It still flexed too much to enjoy so I went back to my Masi GC.
The Look step-ins may help you date this creature. The hybrid Alan could be the first carbon hybrids ever produce in any quantity. ![]() ![]() ![]()

No real details... I found it on a bike forum. Obviously it's a De Rosa steel frame with Campy Record group.
I like it because it's a steel frame with the latest gear. Incidentally, If you weighed this bike it would be about 300 grams heavier (less than a pound) than the equivalent latest carbon framed bikes.

Out with the old, in with the new
My previous MTB:
![]() Got really sick of having my (old, tired) butt pounded on a regular basis on our group rides - so.... ![]() ...don't have a current pic of my "team" Waterford on this computer. Will post sometime in near future. Our group had 18 of them made up with a unique paintjob. Sized up by Richard Schwinn. (I lived in Waterford at the time). |

Ah-
Correction: You can spot the Waterford in the first pic (background). Will post some new pics in the next week or so. ...and, no. I don't shop by color. Just works out that I end up with lots of red bikes. My favorite was an early Trek 2000 in "Ecru" (Beige) paint with burgundy decals. Had a burgundy San Marco Condor saddle to match, and natural Cinelli cork tape. White campy brake hoods. Very pretty bike, and I really liked it for criteriums. ...I think I'm rambling.... |

Not as fancy as some, but I just picked up a new 2012 Trek Marlin this weekend. A very big step up from my $60 wallymart bike...
![]() ![]() And since its Marvin green, I had some stickers made on reflective vinyl... ![]() |

I'd ditch the reflectors, but I ride on the street after dark a lot...

In that case, if you haven't already, get a rear red blinky and clip on to your back or seat bag. Front white led light with flashing option. Relective wear as well.
Those wheel reflectors aren't going to do much for you, 'cept throw the ballance off of the wheels....stuff like that bothers me. Maybe add another one to each wheel ![]() |

I've already got blinky lights coming. Considering doing some scotchlite striping on the frame too..

Haha thanks scott. I really didn't take into account how big the 29er is before I bought it. I'm having to get creative with where to keep it inside. Going to have to beg my landlord to let me put a hook in the ceiling.

Not really "Porn", but certainly a trusty mount.
I've put many more miles on this lady over the last five years (pulling burley, trail-a-bikes, etc...) than on the others. When I do have a chance to ride alone - this one is usually close by, and doesnt need any attention. ![]() ...and when you want a "threesome"- ![]() |
