The problem with the plugs is they seize in the head. If you can get them out clean you're OK
I think you should take Eric's advice on this

I think in most cases they work themselves loose and pop out of the head, damaging the threads in the process. With the aluminum head, the problem is maginified. It used to be Ford installed a Timesert, but want to replace the entire head. There are shops that are able to install Timeserts or similar and install a new plug. It's not super common, but does happen, so snug the plugs down when you get it or just replace them (a better idea since you have to remove the COPs anyway).

I've changed every plug, on every vehicle I've ever owned the same way. Finger tighten them down, then 1/8 turn with a wrench. Hasn't failed me yet.

Yep.

Ford dealers usually have specific experience and don't damage the threads. But if they are seized, you'll have issues. Or if someone else did it 10K miles ago, you may have issues. They are known to blow the plugs clean out of the head, taking the threads with them.

I'm not saying it to rag on Fords, or this particular choice or truck. Just negotiate it to be done before you buy and it transfers some of the 'what could happen' to the seller so you aren't stuck later (pun coincidence).

ditto on the sparkplugs.

i advised a friend not to DIY it, and he didnt listen. he broke a plug into the head when it seized. he gave it a real go, and it simply snapped.

he got it fixed, but he wont do the job again on his own. let the pros do it. money well invested.

A friend of mine blew a spark plug out of his very high mileage ford a few weeks ago. I installed a timesert type insert for him without too much difficulty. As long as you're very patient, use a lot of grease to hold the aluminum shavings, and clean and re-grease the tap often during the process it's very doable without getting crap in the combustion chamber.

Proper tool for the job. Love my truck. I have owned this truck longer than any of 30+ vehicles (3rd truck)

So, should we spray some WD-40 or PB Blaster before undo the plugs?

A man's got to have a pickup. Pickup, sports car and motorcycle......those are the basic toys. Others can be added according to personal preference/hobbies.

Yep..... I personally would add a decent sized garage/shop and big back yard as a minimum also.

Byron,
How'd you fit in that thing? You look bigger then me and I can't fit or I'd have one
That was never a problem, I have had 5 or 6, converted that one from diesle to GTI specs, even too an SCCA auto X championship in it

and would love to have a Turbo diesle LX for daily use, gotta love that 45+MPG and even kinda quick (my non turbo diesle was 0-60 , well I'm still waiting) but this was as much as I could fit in the back

With the choice of seats on the aftermarket, it should be hard to fit, as to me, I'm much bigger than I use to be, but I can still manage to fit into cool rides
