It would be fun to experience that thing completely delaminating as soon as I sat on it.

No way I'd even think of riding that... I used to "test" product for Nuke Proof when I raced for them back in the day. They were one of the first offering carbon anything and I can tell you it's no fun at all having ER guys use tweezers picking carbon bits from your arms snapped a handlebar.

I wonder what my 1960s era "Stingray" with three speeds & the big banana seat weighted. It had a lot of extra welding on the cracks on the frame.

After getting back into road bikes last year and buying a modern bike with brake lever shifters, I can't imagine going back to downtube shifters no matter what the weight penalty is!

i have a friend that still has parts of carbon coming out of his thighs from time to time from a carbon seatpost that exploded under him in the early 90's.

Sweet! Now this would be sweet for a 140 lb rider...but us 200+ guys could only truly gain an advantage by losing the pounds from our fat a$$es.

I've seen Cannondale's version of the world lightest race bike. It weighed 9lbs, cost $23,000.

Thing is, weight has come to pass as greatly overrated in cycling.

What really makes a bike fast or slow in any situation are the frame angles.

And the rider.

Damn cool but yeah - not for the average person. Probably only really usable by those 150-160# and even then I'd suspect only for a few months before falling apart.

That weight would make it illegal for many racing divisions (which establish minima to make it be more about strength/skill and less about who can throw more money at their equipment)

According to the articles (linked above) this bike has seen over 12,000 miles of use

So it has held up pretty well

That's impressive. Hell, most Ferraris don't last 12k.
