Zoom Zoom boys. Time for new rubber.

been looking at Yokohomas. What do you guys prefer? Since I have a long commute I am looking for:

Minimum road noise
Good handling in dry/wet
Slightly high performance

I really like my new Dunlop Fierce Instinct on the Mazda. They are inexpensive but are awesome in the rain and even snow. Dry traction is good for a daily driver.

I had the Kumho Ecsta ASX on it before and they were really good dry and wet. Mine were just worn out.

I've been running Bridgestone RE11s on my miata (the last one too) for a while and love them. Before that, my favorite was the Toyo T1R. I think those may have been replaced by a new model, and they are harder to find. I ran some Yokos a few years back, AVS ES100s. They had great turn in, but I thought they had fairly low grip for a high-perf tire.

What size do you need?

Steve,

I need 205/60-16. I have been looking at some yoko's on tirerack that I may see if discount will match the price.

I have Yokohama Advans on my 944 that I put on about 2 years ago. They are a pretty good all around tires. I like them much better than the Dunlop tires I had on prior (I don't remember which variety they were). The wet traction on the Yokohama tires is so much better with the new tires.

I've had several Yokohama tire sets and been pleased. Just avoid Sumitomo, they're crap.

Take a good look at the Tire Rack reviews, they've never steered me wrong. I've read a lot of good things about General performance tires and they're cheap. I may try a pair the next time I'm due for tires.

I'm looking to get a set of Hoosier R6's set my way... The two fronts I borrowed for my timed runs at the last AX totally blew me away.

Dave, I have a set of Falken Azenis RT615k on my Boxster, they're fantastic tires. Very good in the rain, especially considering that they're an autocross tire. Great grip, quiet, and good ride quality.

I have been buying Falken Ziex 912's for most of our daily drivers for several years now (BMW 325 and Porsche 924's). They are decent cheap all- season tires. They seem to be grippy enough for me on the rare occasion that I pour the coals to the BMW on an on-ramp during my long daily work commute.

Hey,
I run the Continental DWS. They have a very high treadwear rating. Not sure how quiet they are as my SC seems a little loud on the road. They are even rated for snow if you can believe it. We had a freak snow storm last year and I did just fine. For street driving, they don't seem too hard to me at all. I wanted a tire that was somewhat consistent across many different temperatures and conditions - it rains a lot here. I think I got it. I have been pleased.

Yep contemplating putting them on the Mini Cooper. Although I have been told they have a soft (squishy sidewall).

So I may go with Toyo R1R for autocross and street duty. Short life but they burn twice as bright.

Another vote for the Kumho Ecsta ASTs. I had them on my 2007 MazdaSpeed3 when I sold it. In the spring, I'll buy a set for my 2010 MazdaSpeed3.

Right?

We have 215/45/17s on the Mazda3, they fit perfectly.

buy the MS3 wheels that LeeH offered in the other thread, and slap some proper tires on your sporty car!
