my recently completed scissor lift install
Hello everyone I know others have done this but I thought I would share some pics of my recently completed scissor lift install. Because the 911 + 914 are low to the ground I decided I wanted to recess the lift into the floor of my new home/garage. I layed out the location on the floor, made a outline with a sharpie pen and then went and rented a concrete wet saw from Home Depot. After the perimeter cuts were done I did one long cut and a few cross cuts so the pieces of concrete left over would be easier to break up. Returned the wet saw and rented a Makita full sized electric jackhammer to bust up the 6 inch thick floor. After removing the broken up concrete I then hand dug the soil/clay to a new floor thickness of aprox. 7 inches. Drilled holes in the existing slab to install 3/8 rebar for added strength. A layer of plastic and ready for the form. I then made a floating form which included a 2 1/2 inch wide " ledge " on the two long sides. This ledge is held down from the existing surface about 5/8 of an inch to hold the plywood cover. Called in some pro's to pour/float the floor. Let it dry for 45 days and then gave it two coats of acrylic garage floor epoxy. Yesterday with the help of my two sons we slid the 1000 pound lift into place. It fit great and I'm real happy with the results. All I have left to do is make a notch in the concrete to let the hydraulic hose from the lift go under the cover but that will be easy. Hope this article and pics helps someone else.

Wow looks great!
Edit - Ignore -> Is the last pic a cover? Can you store the lift inside with the cover on? I should have read your post more clearly, you answered this question in the original post. My bad.

Excellent design and execution... And I like that you made a proper floor level cover for the lift.
Is that a Terrazzo floor? ... It looks like the perfect garage flooring. ![]()

Very, very nice. How much hassle and in the end what was the cost?

Thanks guys I'm very happy with the end results. The existing floor is not terrazzo it looks to be a two part epoxy like sold at big box stores with the colored flecks. I don't like it at all and will be changing to either a racedeck type product or vinyl tile in a white/black checkered flag type pattern. The plywood cover will be painted to match the new floor. I think I have aprox. $600.00-650.00 in total for the job. That includes renting the two tools, the lumber for the forms and cover and the concrete/guys to put it down. The cover is 1/2 inch plywood with aluminum channel glued to the perimeter. The channel makes for a clean edge and it really firmed up the plywood. The center of the cover will be supported by the lift arms, I just have to make some foam blocks to make up the distance between them. I will be able to walk on the cover if need be. I wanted to keep the cover as light as I could so I could handle it.

Looks nice although I doubt you will mess with the cover..... if you use your scissor lift as much as I use mine.
