What do you do with your old cranks?

Came across this sun shelter in the NW of Western Australia a couple of days ago ...

Let's hope this doesn't spawn a flock of "What do you do with your old ..." threads!

Our neighbor growing up, had used a big straight six diesel crank for his mailbox post.

I'd give him his Ovaltine and put him to bed.

Saw on the news there were bad fires near Perth. Seeing your post here, looks like all is ok then?

This pic was taken 1000 miles north of Perth - not much to burn up there!
However, we are still having big fires around Perth today. While the rest of the country was getting flooded, our little part of the world has just come through its driest winter on record. All the bush is tinder box dry and just waiting to burn.
The stupid thing is that way too many people are having a "tree-change" and building houses out there on the edges of the city and they are very vulnerable.
It's just a matter of time before our regular hot dry winds from the desert fan some blazes right through some of these populated areas.

I rebuilt a couple of 8 cylinder diesel engines about 25 years ago that had 72 foot long cranks with 2 foot stroke.
They were actually two pieces that were bolted together because at the time they were made they didn't have machines big enough to make em one piece.

Heavy bastards they were.

Scared the living shtt out of me It must have looked quite funny with me leaping around shaking my leg in the air!

You guys have some serious venomous snake issues in Oz. I do not envy you in the least. You have to think about it and use care every time you are outdoors.

For anyone who doesn't know, Australia has over 140 species of land snake, and around 32 species of sea snakes which have been recorded in Australian waters. Around 100 Australian snakes are venomous, although only 12 are likely to inflict a wound that could kill you.

They need wild hogs to rid the country of snakes!

Well, I don't know about cranks, but this is what a local auto museum uses old CAMS for:

They have hundreds of them!
