Lubemaster-put a little bacon grease in his food for a day or two (a teaspoon maybe) and it'll clear his flakes up. Works on mine. I could send him some of my Florida Famous Tamales over. I bet they'd clear him right up!!!

Indy gets to meet some other Choco Labs - Harry and Hunter, who are our Friends dogs. Their owner actually told my Wife about Indy. I shall deal with her in private later! (JK)

Indy also has been around the pool and has yet to go in. If he really wants to swim it can be in the pond across the street not the pool. I'm serious about that!!!

We went and got him some toys to chew - I opted for the thick rubber squeeky toy that looks like it could take some punishment. Its a ball with feet. My Son picked a clothe duck that quacked and my Lil girl picked a clothe pig that oinked. Needless to say that it only took him about 2 minutes to gut the bird and pig! The thick rubber toy doesn't have any feet left. The upside, at least he knows not to injest the stuffing or parts!

We also got him a very large pig skin rawhide bone. My guess is that it won't take him long to chew the heck out of that thing. I guess the pig skin is better than cow rawhide? Easier on their gut?

Lube, don't worry be happy, labs can eat anything and I mean anything. If it doesn't agree with it, the object will eventually come out one way or the other.

Went to a friends house awhile back and as myself and my dog, Lady came into the house, I greeted the lady of the house and before you could say " hey, Lady, don't eat that" well she did eat a cat toy that was a toy mouse. One gulp and it was gone. Needless to say about 6 hours later,Lady got up, was restless, proceeded to eject that darn mouse out of her thru were it came. No worse for wear just alittle slippery and wet.

Crate training is the only way to house train them, stick with it for at least a yr and your lab will be house trained for life. My lab sleeps in her bed in the kitchen and in the morning she walks upstairs to get us up so she can go outside at our convienience. They are regimented in their habits, mine goes morning, noon and before bedtime like a clock.

there is dog proof..
no such thing as Lab. proof...
Pig is good ..but can add $$ up quickly..
I buy this stuff by the BIG bag...
Basketballs last about 10 minutes..
Sam collects them on his walk..
if you leave it out..he takes it home..
if you don't give them stuff..
they will find something..

Chocolate Labs can be would up a little tight. Fish oil added to the food will make the dog's coat super-silky. Don't over-feed dogs.

Marley has nuthin on my SAM..
how can a dog eat a hole into my bathroom wall..
easy...
leave him alone for a few..
he was a pup..all is forgiven..
he did dismantle my picnic table..
then brought same thru the dog-door piece by piece
also created another entrance too the pool-house ..
I LOVE that dog..his brother Jack as well..

Labs (as puppies) become easily bored and, as has been pointed out, love to chew and WILL make their own fun.

Louie in his prime - at about 120lbs. A Lab/Newfoundland mix (R.I.P.)

Left alone in the garage as a pup while the wife and I were at work, proceeded to chew:

The wood trim off of the garage entry door to the kitchen.
The rubber weatherstrip off of the bottom of a garage door.
The wiring off of the boat trailer (TWICE!)
The oxygen/acetylene hoses on my welding rig.
The edges of two wood drawers in the shop area.

And on one 45 degree day - somehow got up onto a shelf, bit through a 20 OZ tube of 90 weight Marine Lower Engine Lube ...and slung it all over most of the three-car garage floor.

And after each episode - greeted my return home with a smile and a tail-wagging.

I miss that big SOB.........

Nice looking pup. Glad you got a rescue.

Get a Kong ball. (interesting story behind it's invention, it's a suspension component)

For the big chewers you can do cow hooves.

Watch the rawhide, there are 2 grades, toy and edible.

The edible stuff needs to pass FDA standards and will be labeled as a food item.

The "toys" do not need to meet FDA standards. Very common for them to contain glue as part of the manufacturing process.

Get him a Big Dog feeder. The elevated bowls can help prevent bloat which is a lot worse than it sounds. Midol won't fix it.

If you have a pool you can look forward to this:

That's our girl, Lola at about a year old. Once she discovered the pool, it was her's. They make a floating Kong so you'll need one of those too

What's strange is our black lab mutt and yellow lab wanted nothing to do with the pool.

We use a large flat pan for food bowl so the food's spread out and she can't eat it in two bites.

i have a 10yr old black lab best dog i have ever owned or excuse me he ownes me !! good luck with your new lab and watch out for those pin sharp puppy teeth ouch!!!

Our Mastiff Newf mix, Dakota, did not know she could swim.

Took her to the beach one day to hang out with her sister, Nikita, who was owned by a co-worker. They were about 5 months old by then.

Co-worker tosses a ball into the water and Nikita tears after it, Dakota follows her and stops knee deep.

We kept tossing the ball and Dakota went a little farther each time. The look on her face when she figured out she could swim was priceless.

Within a half hour she was swimming an easy 100 ft out and back.

It was all over after that.

You couldn't fill the tub to bathe the kids without her trying to get in it.

You may want to get one of those plastic kiddie pools for him to splash around in.
