Unhappy Docs can you take a look at Charlotte's skin rash please? She's sore...

I don't know if this is eczema. It sure looks like it (is much more angry than the pic shows).

Charlotte is 13; eats everything, never had food allergies before...but I am starting to wonder if something is setting this off for her. It's sore and is very angry at the base of her hairline along her neck as well. It has flared overnight from a bit of a rash on her throat to this. And it's ITCHY...

Charlotte is also asking whether it may be something that could be hormone related as she thinks it's much worse at certain times of the month...

She's had some redness near her armpits in warmer weather as well.

I am starting to wonder if it is food induced; something like grapes which she eats almost every day. I thought it most likely to be tomatoes; but she hasn't eaten as many of them as usual this week.

We've tried aloe vera gel which stings apparently and she has said it felt as though her throat was swelling when she applied it so we're not doing that again. We've tried aqueous cream...

I have to take her to the doc but its Saturday afternoon here so no dice til Monday at least.

Any ideas would be wonderful...she's my baby and she's hurting...she's only just shown me and I am out of ideas.

We used to get something like that in Costa Rica during the warm/sweatty months, never under clothes, I checked the girls, always on exposed skin, nobody I knew ever found out what it was, but if you stayed in air conditioning or cool temps in the house it went away. Would go away at night but come back during the day. Sorry, no help.

Dean,

There's been a virus going round here which includes a skin rash but I can't get hold of anyone who has had it at the moment to ask them exactly what it was like.

It hasn't been hot here at all this week. In fact it's been cold enough for the heating to be on (so much for Summer).

I have changed nothing - same washing powder, same soap etc.

It's driving her crazy (understandably)...and I feel lousy because I can't fix it for her.

No as they are prescription only here. Certainly the cream is...I know I need to get her to the doc for this; just trying to find something to give her some relief short term.

Better not be dairy product related...she won't be happy as she absolutely loves fetta cheese and natural yoghurt, as well as milk...

Short for hydro-cortisone 1%. It's over the counter here in the US.

Beard rash can be be from an uncle with a big quick-how-ya-doing hug with less than fresh shave....my brothers and I have had this discussion. We are all fair in skin and hair but have a Greek granpa that gave us COARSE follicles from hell.

We have 15 nieces and one nephew......he wears a tutu under his hockey uniform

We are up to our rocker panels in wimmen.....

Send me a PM with your email and I'll send you a pic of 1/3 of the gals....looks like the United Nations with the diversity.

I can buy Claratyne and such over the counter...might duck out and get some. Charlotte is absolutely useless with taking tablets; at least most of the anti-histamine type tabs are tiny .

Haha sounds like my Mum's family...she was one of eight girls and only one son. Suffice to say; he never married...he's 80 now and still as useless as ever .

I had some 2% hydro-cortisone cream in the fridge but I chucked it out a few weeks ago as it was well out of date. Can't buy it off script here...we have much tighter controls than you guys (frustrating).

Yeah...I should have just kept it as it had been in the fridge all along...one of those "clean out days"...and now I need it (or Charlie does)

There must be over the counter products for diaper rash, try those, just to make her more comfortable until Monday, not a doctor but that's what I would do. Good luck.

hydro-cortisone for sure.

Its sounds like an odd suggestion, but have her wear 100% cotton shirts until it resolves.

Not odd at all...100% cotton wherever possible here. Rotten school uniforms are not 100% cotton though

Was thinking about nappy rash cream. That I CAN buy over the counter...

Go to your local druggist, and ask what he has over the counter that works as good as Hydrocortisone. He has to have something. If you can get some Benadryl(Diphenhydramine HCl) have her take that as well. The benadryl can cause drowsiness, but it helps with the rash.

Things like Hydrocortisone I wouldn't worry about being out of date. It might be slightly less effective, but its not going to be harmful, especially not if it has been stored in a fridge...

I am not a doctor, nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn last night, but I do play a Pharmacy Tech 20hrs a week...

Yey thanks Sidney

Should have called out to the pharmacists (and budding ones) as well...

I am KICKING myself for throwing out that cream...

Thought about the benadryl too - that I can get easily as well.

Might get her some Avene Mineral Water as well to take the heat out.

She's bearing up OK (doing her homework ); but she is absent mindedly scratching and I am worried she'll do that tonight when asleep and wake up with it much worse...

Lisa, no doctor here just a Dad. FWIW that looks like it could be a slight case of idiopathic urticuria. My kid has had a few bouts with it. We never did find the cause but the Hydrocortisone 1% did help. Good luck and best wishes.

That's very plausible...idiopathic urticuria.

Gotta get my hands on some hydrocortisone cream...all my nursing friends who have all this stuff at home are away this weekend...just my luck.

Guys, Charlotte wants to say thank you! She is absolutely overwhelmed with the rapid responses and all the help. I told her this would happen; this board being as it is ...and I want to say a very sincere thank you too...

Here she is; funning around at Bermagui last month...she'll always be my baby no matter how big she gets

oooh crappy quality pic...sorry!

Viral rash...nothing really to treat it with...just has to run its course. Both my girls have had similar rashes and they all have been viral.
