St. Paddy's Day

St. Patrick is of course the patron Saint of Ireland. He is credited with bringing Christianity to the emerald Ilse.

In honor of his day will you celebrate St. Paddy's Day, and if so how?

For me we will host a party of close friends, work colleagues and loads of kids. This Thursday we'll celebrate with real ale, homemade soda bread, and Shane Macgowan (ect.) on the audio. Some wear kilts and of course most will be in green and orange.

I found a mini-keg of New Castle (Yeah, I can't find Guinness in a mini-keg). Toasting seems to be an art and charm of the Irish.

Do you have any witticism, quotes, song list, or Irish blessings to share?

Current play list below (It's not all Irish).

I will not.
I almost got myself killed once going into Seattles largest Irish Pub on Patrick's Day and stating live on our local KZOK radio station why I do not celebrate Patrick's day on the air.

I'd have no problem celebrating St. Andrew's day.

Neither would I, even though ^^. Andrew wasn't responsible for the persecution or execution of the Pagan people (IE: snakes) in Ireland.

the scaly creatures that slither on the ground had nothing to do with it.

But I'll stop now, before this goes to a different forum.

my section of the sand bar has traffic blocked, parades, booze, cops, bumper to bumper tourists, more booze, 55 minute choo choo from the city, bumper to bumper gin mills, and plenty of outlier girls looking to spend the night somewhere.. and there is a danger you'll lose your soul before you leave town.
Some blame it on the salt air

Around here it is just an excuse to get drunk. No different than Cinco de Mayo, Halloween or New Years Eve. Been there done that, don't want to do it ever again. I have not had a hangover in this millennium.

I just try to stay off the roads and away from the drunks. I will most likely have a beer at home, but it will not be a green beer!

Intemperate consumption is not on my list. I have no issues with raising a glass of cheer with good friends and family.

Unless you party every day, I find this post rather sad.

On some brighter news Chicago does do St. Patrick's.

In Chicago, they dye the entire river green!

I'll make a couple of non-mainstream suggestions:

Emerald Road has one self-titled album. The tracks are mostly a traditional Irish sound of fiddle and drum laden tunes.

Deborah Brinson has two albums. Erin Song is comprised of Irish tunes. Let Dixie Remember is aimed more at the American South. All of her tunes are heavy on piano and harp.

Of course, there are plenty of more mainstream artists that everyone knows: Coors, Clannad, Lunasa, Dubliners, etc.

And "Celtic Myst" is a series of compilation albums that is pretty good.

IRISH BREAKFAST TREAT
Of course, a true Irish breakfast is a heart attack on a plate....

Traditionally, the most common ingredients are bacon rashers, sausages, fried eggs, white pudding, black pudding, toast, sliced tomato, and fried potato. Sauteed mushrooms are also sometimes included, as well as liver (although popularity has declined in recent years), and brown soda bread. Fried potato bread, farl, potato farl or toast is often served as an alternative to brown soda bread.

That's right... two kinds of pork on one plate!
And two kinds of pudding - which is also pork!

As seen in this photo, the breakfast will often include Heinz beans.
