If you had the time and storage space and wanted to use that 993 drivetrain in an older 911, you could do that pretty cost effectively at $15k and change. Keep the drivetrain and part out the rest and you'd probably come out very well. 993 trannies are getting stupid expensive because the kit car crowd has decided they are great for their own projects too.

Add says the car is driveable. Ins. company could have just shotgunned a large estimate if the appraiser was afraid of the repair. Lots of things could be going on here. Could be stolen and recovered. Every state has specific rules as to when a car has to take a salvage title. Here is some info for Oregon. I've never worked in that area of the country so I don't know how the statutes are interpreted. My Co-Part password has expired. When it gets reset I'll see if there is more info there.

OREGON
Citation OR ST s 801.527
Definition "Totaled vehicle" or "totaled" means:
(1) A vehicle that is declared a total loss by an insurer that is obligated to cover the loss
or that the insurer takes possession of or title to.
(2) A vehicle that is stolen, if it is not recovered within 30 days of the date that it is stolen
and if the loss is not covered by an insurer.
(3) A vehicle that has sustained damage that is not covered by an insurer and that is such
that the estimated cost to repair the vehicle is equal to at least 80 percent of the retail
market value of the vehicle prior to the damage. For purposes of this subsection, "retail
market value" shall be as reflected in publications relied upon by financial institutions
doing business in this state.

They could have driven over debris on the highway - I had an old Saab turbo and a chaise - the type that sit around pools - fell off a truck in front of me, and I had to go right over it - I had cars on either side of me.

The damage looked similar to this car - some lower bumper damage in the front - scratched up bumper cover - some of the shields ripped off - but underneath the car it was a mess - from front to back. Needless to say it too was totaled.

I just checked Co-Parts' site and I can not access this car.

I could see this one going either way. You'll need eyes/hands on the car to tell. It's the only way to know for sure.

Again, that could mean anything, the front axels could be removed so it drives in the lot. I have bought wrecks at pig auctions before an hhat term leavess things wide open..

C4's can command a little more than C2's. They're not my cup of tea, but they are a little more.

Where do you get "track car?" No roll bar and no multi-point belts. It's got seats and a big wing.

So do 100's of ricer rides.

My bad, I confused it with another car I was asked to check out, hence the tire comment.

With a clean title it's probably a $30k car. With a salvage title it's worth about half that, even after you sink in the money to fix it.

The tow hook would be used in any towing situation, ie. pulling it on to a flatbed tow truck. That means nothing. The car would need to be carefully inspected in person to know what it's worth or if it's worth buying, pretty hard to do from your keyboard. And rain doesn't hurt these cars, they're pretty tough.

Yup, I used it on my 318ti when the fuel pump died and on my Boxster when it was stuck in the snow. That little threaded plug is there for a reason, who wants to bend an A-arm with a tow strap?
