Custom aircraft models

Found this site that can make just about any aircraft in the world with any option you want. About $250 each but would make a good gift for that special someone (like me). I found my old squadron and, they look good!

Flew as a flight engineer for 6500 safe flight hours from 1980-1993 all over the world, several times.

That looks cool, but had to be a tight fit with everyone on board...

What are those lines that connect the fuselage to the tail?

I think those are long range communication aerials.

Yes H F radios, you can talk around the world with them or you can dial in c.b. channels and mess with truckers across the U.S.!

Otherwise known as Short Wave radio antennas. HF is a throwback from years ago but to tell the truth it works. Was flying recently and listening to the BBC on the HF on our plane picking up the news in flight.

I have used one of these companies several times and they produce a very nice model. Personalized to look like a bird I have flown, they are IMHO worth the $$.

Looks like the squadron logo is an eagle on a surfboard throwing bombs overhand.

Link would be great!

Lots of time spent in close proximity to Cal-Fire/CDF P3s during my GA flight instructions at the Chico Airport... The workhorse of fire fighting above the Sierra Nevada foothills!

Once had an ATC warn us to keep a look out for the P3 doing touch and goes as we taxi out to runway, funniest looking P3 ever as it was long-black-skinny with a very wide wingspan similar to a U2. Oh that's right it was a U2 not a P3

Thanks for posting, this will make a great present for my Grandfather

Here is a company who has done several of the planes I fuss with. In fact the red and white one shown in this ebay auction is one of my old planes, painted to match.

15-AC Aeronca 15AC Sedan Airplane Wood Model Big - eBay (item 120484046839 end time Mar-17-11 01:32:54 PDT)

They were very good to work with and made a deal with us once we contracted for several airplanes.

Orion, military version of the Lockheed Electra... in civvy version was an airliner.

...carried 75 or so passengers... or more in the longer version. Not a tight fit, I don't think.

They had an engine mount problem resulting in a couple fatal crashes. It was fixed (expensive) but the luster was off the civvy version and it lost popularity.

An Orion and it's crew was captured by N. Korea; crew was later returned as was the plane, in pieces.

Edit: Yes, oops, China (brain skip - thanks, Joe). I met one of the guys that was friends with the crew and helped re-assembling the P3 after we got it back...

I'm sitting here in my office, across the street from Lockheed's P-3 repair facility.

Plane was siezed by the Chinese after a forced landing. A mid-air collision with a stupid Chinese fighter can do wonders to the plane...
