Whether or not a smack down was justified (it was, IMO), that could have ended tragically. I can barely even watch that video

When I was in elementary school, WWF wrestling was all the rage, and kids often wrestled on breaks. One kid got a pile-driver like that in the schoolyard, and ended up being hauled away by ambulance with a broken neck, didn't see him again till grade 7.

Seriously, I'd have been glad to see a solid punch in the gut, but WTF is with praising that kind of response?

The punk had it coming, he started it, he pushed the issue, the consequences are on him and he deserves them no matter how severe. If he because seriously injured he would be injured AS A DIRECT RESULT OF HIS OWN ACTIONS!
That's one of them "personal responsibility" things.
Tragic as it would have been, maybe it would result in an important lesson for others. That's what like does, it teaches people lessons, and we tend to learn more from tragedy than from good fortune.

When I was in HS, '70's, when things got chippy, the two protagonists were often made to wear 20 ounce boxing gloves and, under the supervision of the PE department and the athletic coaches, box each other.

Anyone who has boxed knows just how stupid hard it is to, one, hurt anyone with pillows on your fists, and, two, last more than a few minutes without gasping for air.

Settled. Amazing how easy it can be if we all realize boys are going to try and pee higher on the tree than the next guy.

Casey's father said his son had been the victim of bullying for several years and feared for his safety if he spoke about the fight.

"There'll be reprisals from other kids in the school and he still has to go to school somewhere," he said.

"He's not a violent kid, it's the first time he's lashed out and I don't want him to be victimised over that.

"He's always been taught never to hit. Apparently other people's parents don't teach their kids that."

"Both students in a fight at the school shown on the internet have been suspended ... the only injury sustained was a grazed knee."

Raises the question...what has been done in the past for Casey? Knowing how a lot of the schools here 'talk the talk' but don't 'walk the walk' when it comes to bullying I would suggest not much had been done by the school authorities to make Casey feel safe. Amazing how they can be so blind as to ignore these situations or not deal with them decisively early...increasingly the situation is such that only mild gestures of dealing with bullies are made until something like this occurs and the situation is made public.

The mother of the bully is demanding an apology to her family from Casey...I read this yesterday (can't find the article)...why? Because she says that Casey embarassed her son in this viral video. She implied that the recording and release of the vid was somehow Casey's fault and this is why she is demanding an apology! Great example she is setting to her son...no wonder he is such a little *****...

If only...how times have changed. I would wager a large sum that the majority of parents would protest this course of action...the complaints would include such idiotic statements as "this would promote more violence", "boxing is a violent sport and I don't want my child in a ring", "not my child, he's a good boy and I refute he has done anything wrong - it's a lie that he's a bully"... etc etc...

To coin a phrase from my youngest boy's favorite movie (Billy, 11)...

"stupid is as stupid does"...

Police Victoria have always had amazing programs and venues available whereby they take the 'problem kids' under their wing. They had a couple of camp sites where they would take kids away for a few days and wear them out with lots of physical activities (including boxing) and lessons in tactile stuff like carpentry, metalworking etc. They would also introduce the kids to all sorts of education programs for skills learning etc They were the one authoritative organisation who were taking proactive measures with these programs...and I believe a lot of these programs have been lost due to lack of funding ...

As an aside, Police Vic also used to take one of their Highway Patrol Cars nicknamed Smokey One along to the legal streetcar drags at Calder Park. I don't know if this happens anymore either (due to lack of funds)...having a cop car turn up and mix it with the kids' cars on the drag strip was fantastic value for Police Vic. A lot of these kids are cop and authority haters...this small gesture was building good relationships with these kids...it's time for more proactive programs like this to have decent funding again...

If the bully were paralyzed, who gives a rats a$$ in the hubs of hell. This is how bullies and degenerates need to be treated. The big kid was restrained, he subdued the threat and sent a message that good men and women, are courageous enough to subdue evil and suffer the consequences, whatever they may be. To bad the little a$$hats parents don't get it. So in 15 to 20 years when someone has had enough of little bully boy, and his days on earth are terminated, maybe his $hit for brains mom will get the fact that her spawn is a degenerate. The next guy may just terminate the little ba$tards stay on planet earth OR his parents will kick his little evil a$$ and allow him to be a productive member of the human race. Little $hits grow up to big $hits and buy that time to many innocents are at risk of collateral damage when the little pos is brought to justice.

Well said and pretty close to my exact thoughts. That little brat ought to thank his maker every day that he didn't end up (deservedly) in a wheelchair for the rest of his life for being such a d-bag.

Actions have consequences.

I can think of no more important lesson that young people need to discover on their journey from being children to being adults, regardless of how our society is trying to make everything someone else's fault these days.
