plastic models, do you still build them?

That I built were these two Pocher Alfa Romeo models in 1/8th scale:






The small scale Alfa Monoposto was a British cast metal kit from the early '70s.

To figure out duct and pipe routing and clearance for COPs, here's my current mock-up for 3.6 conversion exhaust and heat exchangers ...









Some say ... the plastic plumbing fittings might outlast the OBX headers!

Like some of all of your work. As a kid, I did. Still do as an adult. Don't have as much time but so I like 1/24th die cast. But I just don't want to put them just on a shelf so I create scenes. Not that this doesn't take time.

I like your thinking. That looks like a cool way to design stuff.

The heat exchangers look small but I'd bet they will still work effectively.
When new the interior of a 911 could be like an oven if you ran the heat full blast.
I heard a story were people were warming up canned food by placing it next to the heat outlets on the floor of an early car. (the ones with the small sliding door)

I dug a few up this AM. All of the ones from my childhood are long gone, there where terrible crashes and fires. Model glue burns very good.

I built one of those. Was a major undertaking. 2,088 parts, as I recall. Your finished product looks great!

Do these have a white metal body or are they plastic?

Plastic. There are a significant number of metal pieces including assembly screws and individual wheel spokes.

And this afternoon a won an ebay auction for a Tamiya 1/32 Phantom ... at like 40 % cheaper then the shop price..


It's not that i'm much good at this modeling, at lot of the times i don't even bother painting em. It's in cycles, i bugger around with a couple of cheap ones, till i think i'm ready for a big expensive one.. buy me some rattle cans and give it ago..
Then i realize i'm not good at it

But it's good , clean fun, one of those few things that can really take my mind off "work" during winter time.

The cars themselves, they didn't come as a kit did they? Everything else, you made from scratch?

The cars are 1/24th scale plastic kits made by Fujimi. Pretty much everything in the garage is "kit bashed", taking parts and pieces from other kits and scratch building things out of sheet styrene. I've built a bunch of larger 1/18th scale dioramas and found some really cool things I was able to use from a place that sells doll house accessories. Things like a desk and chairs fit perfect for 1/18th scale.
One of the easiest things in the diorama was the Porsche posters.....I just cut them out of old Performance Products catalogs....perfect size!

If anyone wants to buy any Porsche models, built or unbuilt, just PM me, I've got over a thousand of them.

It's a 1/24 Tamiya kit with aftermarket decals and photo etch details by Studio 27.
I really enjoy building models...it's quite theraputic...clears your mind of whatever else is going on in your life, and gives a sense of pride when you do a good job.
I have a big collection of unbuilt plastic kits (probably 300+) and half as many again in 1/43 scale metal/multi-media.
These ones are Tamiya 1/20 scale kits.

The JPS one has aftermarket decals, the Camel one is standard.

Just a couple of points I would like to make...

I found that I would get to about 75% complete and then begin to loose interest.
And then begin another model. So what I did was make a rule that I can not begin another model until the one I was building was 100%.

Also, have a dedicated area in your house that isn't used for anything else if you can.
So you don't have top keep packing things up and shifting them about. That's usually when I would damage something.
