Outlook + Web Mail help please..
I have been experiencing this problem for a while and I thought it was unique to my home desk top. I just didn't bother to fix it on my desk top since I could just log on to the mailbox via the web. I just tried to configure my new HP Slate to sych up with my web mail, and it's experiencing the same problem:
I can download e-mail from the server, we'll call it mail.soukus.com For the incoming IMAP mail, I have the server set to: mail.soukus.com and for the outgoing mail I have it set to smtp.soukus.com I've checked and double checked my password and I still cannot send to the server. The same config info is on my iphone and it works just fine. What am I doing wrong on my Windows machine running Outlooks? Any tips to help remedy this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Sometimes simply using the servers IP address resolves it. I find that situation applies mostly to consumer broadband providers.
SMTP has a couple of advanced options, you may or may need to over ride the default port. It may or may not require SSL.

You might need to make sure it sends your password to the outgoing server. There should be a checkbox for that, or possibly one for log onto incoming server first, or something like that.
It also might want secure password auth, every server is a little bit differnet as the the settings it wants exactly, as well as how it wants your username to look, etc.

Some ISP's block port 25. Both ATT and Comcast are known to do this. http://kb.siteground.com/article/How_to_check_whether_SMTP_port_25_is_blocked.html See if you are blocked.

I believe AT&T requires that you log onto the servers using SSL. There is an option for that within Outlook.

Some ISPs block outgoing mail. You should be using smptauth on port 589 (i think) to connect to your own external server

use port 2525. AT&T doesn't block 2525.

Is this a work server you are trying to hit?
Who controls the server you are trying to use? Did you do a port check? Easier and quicker to determine if that's the issue rather than randomly entering alternate ports.

For outgoing SMTP (for ATT) try:
Under "advanced": SMTP Port = 465 Check SSL Under "servers": Incoming & outgoing - Check "remember password" UNcheck "logon using secure password authentication" Outgoing - Check "my server requires authentication" |
