I guess I don't get this guy. Even reading it in full context, it's contradictory.

If it was in a casino and you "gave/loaned" her a dollar on a slot machine, I'd expect 1/2 winnings. If she does not, dump the g/f, shows her state of mind; me, me, me.

I know a guy from an African country(Poor immigrant, college aged), he was watching at a Casino(No money). A couple from Texas sitting at the table asked if he wanted to play, he told them he had no money, and didn't really understand the game. They said no worries, gave him a bundle, told him to sit down, and they'd teach him.

He ended up turning the money they gave him into a fair amount more than they gave him by the time he left, he tried to give it all back as he didn't consider it his to start with. They wouldn't take it.

I say don't expect anything back(Would you want a cut of the losses???). I also say if you won with money given to you by someone else, share some joy.

It's two separate events. There is no obligation.

If you know the person is borrowing money to gamble, you can negotiate up front that if the person wins you split the pot. That's what I would do if I were loaning the money.

Having said that, if I was the guy that borrowed the money and won big, I'd give the guy back a pretty good percentage. Not 50/50, but way more than the original loan. But I'd do it for my own personal reasons, not because there is an obligation.

Whatever happened to, "Here's 10 bucks, put it on red, the come line or in a slot for me"? And then what do you do if it wins?

I don't gamble, but I have been given lotto tickets, I don't think I would 50/50 it, but sure as heck I'd do something nice, like pay off a mortgage or buy them a new car, etc. depending on the payout.
That said I don't think I've even won a free ticket from a gift.

Not putting miles on your car is like not having sex with your girlfriend, so she'll be more desirable to her next boyfriend.

The root question here is, if a friend handed you a buck and you won with it, would you be selfish enough to keep it?

In Don Malarkey's book, "Easy Company Soldier", he tells of a gambling incident...Don has a talent for gambling. Borrowed some money from a buddy,
gambled with it. Think it was around $60. (Going from memory here, too lazy to look it up in the book) When the game was over, he gave his buddy his $60 back, along with half the winnings...amounted to $6,000 for his buddy.

Keep in mind...these were 1940's dollars...$6K would buy a house.

Just another reason I like, respect, and admire Don. Feel very fortunate to have met him.

On the other hand, I once got a phone call from my honorary nephew...he $3,200 in hock to a bookie. Said he'd have to pay the guy off by selling his motorcyle. I told him to sell the motorcycle. Sure, I could have bailed him out, but I wanted him to learn that gambling is a business, and he shouldn't be in that business.

The lesson partially took. He stays away from bookies and casinos. He claims that when he plays pool for money, he's not gambling. On that, he could be right...

Trying to imagine that scenario:

"Sure, this might be anal, but ..."
"Whoa! That's pretty much exactly what's happening!!!"
"Hey, wait - I didn't win!!!"
"Oh well."

That's how my friends and I handle the tool situation. We all know we're welcome to come/go over and use whatever, but no one ever asks to 'borrow'.

The only tool I've ever borrowed was a bleed pump for a coolant flush and I borrowed it from my mechanic. He just threw it to me and told me to have it back before closing. But then, I've given and brought him a ton of business.

Guess my mind wasn't in the gutter at the time! Which is where it usually is....
