That implies that we actually had control at some point.

I hate to tell you guys, but if there is a problem with the board, look in the mirror. The rude and mean spirited posts come from all sides. And they are tolerated (and in fact encouraged) by some/many here. These days I pretty much only come around when someone reports a post. imho a minority of posters drag the dialogue into the toilet, but the majority seem to accept it.

So in fact the moderators haven't lost control since we never had it. It is the individuals and the community that have set the tone. Until people step up and a) clean up their act, and b) report the offensive posts, there will be no control. It is true that not all reported posts get dealt with - that is a judgment call. But if multiple people complain, they pretty much always get dealt with. If you go by the letter of the forum rules, a ton of posts should be moderated. We let much of it slide because everyone here are adults (?!?!?) and the community has been pretty good over the past decade (?!?!?) I've been here at self-policing. Maybe we do need a crack-down period. But frankly that just seems to embolden some and piss off others.

It is the springtime. Spring fever has hit.

This is not unlike when in the animal world, the grizzly bear comes out of hibernation and craps all over the place to mark his territory.

Except here, folks fling their poo at each other instead.

Springfever anmial instincts - that's all it is. In a week or two, some folks will be shedding their winter coats and malting. I'm just not looking forward to mating season this year -- with the long winter and rainy spring, it's gonna be a mess to clean up this place!

If you are familiar with the signs of the turning of the seasons, you wouldn't be surprised by what's going on here...

Posts tend to appear in good fun but many times there is an under tone that belies the humor.........

LOL, that's eactly what I was thinking.
The hardest part of being a good poopy-head is not letting it get personal.
Some of us (especially me) would not be good moderators.

For a site where testosterone is dripping from the screen - it isn't bad - I've seen worse.

kind of taking the idea to an illogical extreme there, doncha think?

Like a sailor throwing up his hands and saying "hey, I can't control which way the wind blows . ..if the boat beaches itself, it's not my fault. ...the wind..."

There are a few here posting w/ no interest in anything other than being a stick in the spokes of discussion. ...no points, or counter-points, just childish hot air, pushing the boat to the rocks.

Trim the sails, man. ...even if it's just a quick PM or 2.

Careful, that stuff is dangerous! It should sometimes be rated as a hazardous substance.
