Who the eff steals a used, sweaty motorcycle helmet?!?!?!?

WTF? I was in a rush to get to an appt. today, went out to the garage and my helmet was gone. No, I didn't misplace it. I rode home from the gym last night, always put my helmet on my right side mirror and never take it into the house except to wash the pads and liner. I left the garage door open for a few hours because of taking garbage out after dinner. Then I closed it, didn't notice the helmet was gone. Went out today and was SOL. I will go to jail if I catch this kid. All our mailboxes are in a big cluster down the street and that's where everyone puts notices about babysiting, lost pets, etc. I plan to put a notice up there tonight.

I can't imagine an adult would do this. Messing with a bike is just beyond against the rules and doubly so inside someone's garage. I don't see it for sale on Craigslist or Backpage, have had no interactions with any neighborhood teens and just can't imagine why anyone would do this.

Stealing is entertainment for some people, e.g. shoplifters.

I rarely lock mine either Rick. In fact I left a helmet in Germany last month, didn't think it was worth the trouble of bringing back.
But there's people who will take anything not tied down.

But why didn't the idiot thief steal my far more valuable radar detector, mounted right by the helmet? It was a Shoei RF-1000 and I was looking for an excuse to upgrade. But this isn't how I wanted to do it. I can get the new RF-1100 for $307 out the door locally, which is a screaming deal. I still want to kill this kid, his pet and all his friends.

Man, that sucks. There are A-holes who intentionally scout nice neighborhoods looking for open garages just to steal stuff (usually stuff that's easy to grab, low-hanging fruit). Probably tweekers looking for goods to pawn/fence for their next fix. F'ing scumbags. I'd definitely put up a "stolen" flyer on your mailboxes, just in case little Johnny down the street did it, and his parents recognize his latest "acquisition".

I'm praying Little Johnny's parents notice it and come forward. Sign going up within the hour.

Yeah, that gym is only about 12 miles from my house. He'd have to be really sick to go to the trouble of following me all that way (and risking a gunshot wound).

That's exactly what Joe Biden told you would happen since the Republicans didn't pass Obama's job bill.

Crime of opportunity. Most thefts in my neighborhood happen when garage doors are left open. Kinda makes you want to leave it open and just hang out in a chair behind the car to see who wanders in.

Someone did a smash and grab on my wife's car last year. She left a gym bag on the passenger seat. Her car does not have an alarm, but does have a red flashing light on the dash. Thieves broke out the passenger side window. They got the gym bag that only had some sweaty boxing gloves inside. They did not get the iPod that was under the seat, nor did the get the Tom Tom in the glove box (?).

Rick - what was the time frame when it was open? Would kids be walking home from school around that time?

Is that a joke? I don't see that ad on there and the link is not for a Shoei and not in Cave Creek.

I had a dusty, ripped, oil-and-grease-stained ratty old motorcycle cover stolen off my bike a few years ago. It was so bad I'd gotten to the point of not bothering to cable lock it anymore (who'd steal it - not worth the trouble) and was planning on picking up a new one "whenever I happened to get around to it". It was just something to keep most of the sun and bird poop off the bike. Yep. Stolen.

As my neighbor used to (correctly) say, "if they could figure out a way, some people would steal the stink offa s**t around here".

Unreal. This thing wouldn't even have been worth fishing out of a dumpster, yet someone had to have it... "just because".

+1 to the above - some tweaker pawned it. Almost guaranteed.
