i woke up at 4:30 this morning to ride my bike..
what a disappointment. it took iron-will-power to drag my ass up. i got dressed, brushed teeth, ate a banana..filled up my camel back..and searched the house for my cycling shoes. they were missing. apparently i left them at my inlaws during my bathroom remodel. SOaB!! i got undressed and climbed back into bed.
i am now so sleepy. when i get home it is 100 degress. i am not tough, and temps like that will drop me to my knees. i guess i will try again tomorrow. my sleep pattern will become like a senior citizen..thank goodness for dvr..or i would never watch any TV. any morning workout people? what time do you go to bed?

Do bikes not work with non-cycling shoes?

This may sound nuts to you. The answer is yes. I can't get any riding done without my cycling shoe. its like going snorkeling without a set of fins or going to do laps at the pool without your swimming trunks. I assume going commando or underwear will do.

Depending on the pedal design, it can be flat out dangerous to ride with regular shoes.

This is why I haven't upgraded my pedals on my MB. I want to keep it low barrier of entry to get a ride in - minimum equipment required: Helmet.

I was a fairly diligent one. Then we had our first little one...but I was able to get back on the schedule once she started sleeping through the night at 6 months. Still waiting for our little guy to follow suit; 10 months so far and we're still on a 2-3 stopper. Hoping this pit strategy changes soon because it's very difficult to work out in the evening after everyone's asleep.
Luckily I get a mild workout at lunch when time permits. I always enjoyed the early morning workouts/rides; always felt like I had the town to myself and it really set me up for a productive day. No later than 9:30. Last edited by Sarc; 06-22-2011 at 09:25 AM.. |

I go to bed at about 9:30 PM and wake up at four. Not fully awake, I put on my running clothes, let the cats and dog out for a pee, then hit the road. I run for about 45 minutes and then do floor excercise (push ups, planks, like that) for about fifteen minutes, then shower. I don't have much stamina at night!

About 9:30 pm. up at 5:30am Work the dog or dogs for about an hour, leave for a bike ride, home by 9:15 then do a light jog with the dog for 30 minutes. Then get ready for work.

The weather here just spun up to hot, so I've got to get back into my a.m. workout rhythm.
Here's what works for me. Bed by 8:30 pm. Not negotiable. All the items to wear and put on the bike (e.g. water bottle, or camelback) already laid out. Camelback filled. Lights charged. Tires pumped up. Roll over, put your feet on the floor and start moving before you can lose the argument with yourself. If everything isn't in place the night before, I get frustrated and wind up going back to bed. I call that phenomenon "bed suck." That's where the bed sucks you back in before you can get out of the house - LOL! angela

I am just too beat down to make myself exercise in the evenings after work and I get up at 5:30am every day to be at work by 7:00 (1 hour commute). Typically hit the sack between 10:00 and 11:00pm after watching 1-2 hours of TV while relaxing on the couch with my wife. Any less sleep and I do not function well. I truly wish my job started at 8:00 vs 7:00am...... I simply do not have the will power to make myself get up every morning at 4:30am to jog or ride a bike. In my mid 40's, going to bed at 8:30pm is not going to happen.
Unless I start my own business soon, I guess I am destined to become a fat and out of shape 50 something year old. ![]()

Angela,
I know of this "bed suck". I too have my running clothes etc laid out so there is no thinking required. I literally wake up on the road, luckily fully dressed. Good thing my neighborhood is totally deserted and dead safe at 4 AM. All but the paper delivery man are sleeping. Gorgeous time of "day" to run. Troy

Bed about midnight, up around 8ish. Out for a bike ride (tennies), sit ups and pushups. Evenings, bike ride or walk with my wife, more sit ups and pushups. All hot weather, hotter weather time dependent. Around here it is stinking hot usually by mid May thru Sept so outside exercise happens earlier in the am and later, much later in the pm during the summer. Winter/spring T-times around 11am. No golf during the summer.

The only thing that I do in the morning is sleep or go to work.
I'd like to get up and be productive, but apparently, I wouldn't like it THAT much.

I cycle to work each day. I need to be at work by 6, so I like to get there at 5.30 to use the company shower (free hot water!!!), plus it gives me a little buffer if I flat or have a mechanical. Up at 430, eat breakfast, feed the cat, throw the fresh clothes and lunch, which I packed the night before, into the pannier, and off I go.
Today was the first day that I could ride in without long sleeves. ! :-)

I would love to ride my bike to work... weather is great around here for that... but they won't let me on the freeway.

Man, you get up LATE!
I have to be up and at 'em no later than 3:30 to get a good hours ride in the am... Bummer about forgetting the shoes man, why'd you wear them to remodel a bathroom anyway? I generally recommend work boots for such things but hey... |

Up at 3:30, morning constitutional, on the canal bank by 4:00, run between 12 and 18 miles, depending on the day of week, an hour of weights and a cool shower or swim.
That's what I'd like to do.

I get up at 4:30 to get to work by 5:30, so no exercise is going to happen in the AM, unless I ride my bike to work which I'll start doing now that it's stopped raining (please Lord).
