One night I flew from Marseille, France to Paris, then East Midlands, England, then into Edinburgh, Scotland. In Edinburgh, I had to put fuel in the plane.

As I was looking at my flight plan for the next leg up to Aberdeen, the fueler came in and said something.

Folks, I had NO idea what that man said to me!

Despite the fact that we were both speaking English, I had to have him write down on a piece of paper just what it was he wanted to know. The fuelers in southern France were more understandable to me than this guy!

I will say that Scotland is a beautiful place- one of my favorite places to fly into. Even if it was 51 degrees F in the middle of a July day~

The thing to remember is that there are lots of Scottish accents. Glaswegian is completely different to what you'll hear in the Highlands. In addition, there are many words that have completely different meanings in Scotland than those words would in any other English speaking country.

So your daughter needs to pick an accent by specific location and learn that.

I lived in Scotland for 6 years. The differences in accent by just traveling 30 miles was astounding.
